The Official “Regular Posters of the Basketball Forum” Thread

Well, just like every single other year, our draw tonight is going to be important. We got absolutely bullied in the post today. It’s still our biggest weakness under Barnes, something we haven’t been able to solve. We just gotta hope whoever we draw isn’t physical and big. We have really struggled with size and physicality in the post.

I don’t know. I don’t portend to know for sure.

But my point is that it’d happen more often if it was so easy.

Now if you want me to guess?

I’d say it has something to do with the venues and broadcast station needing the info of who is going where etc.. a little earlier than Sunday.
CBS gets the bracket less than five minutes before the selection show begins.

I don’t have much to takeaway from this outside of…

We are good

Florida is good

And Florida deserved to win the game. But man, the officials made this game silly to watch.

I hate losing, but Florida is just better than us. Hope we don’t have to see them again.

I agree there isn’t a lot to take away from the game, but the two biggest concerns I have right now are 1) Igor has been pretty bad for almost 3 weeks. He is in constant foul trouble, defends poorly, and doesn’t really do much else to impact the game and 2) Lanier’s inconsistency is still….consistent.

Igor seems mentally kind of not in it and hits a 3 early in the game and then disappears for a while. Lanier I don't think can take much away from today other than Richard got best of him and got him in foul trouble and defended him really well.

Big take away for me is this teams best lineup is Mashack at 4 and roll with 4 guards. He plays so hard and was teams leading rebounder.

Florida is just a hair better than us right now unfortunately. I don’t walk away from this game feeling concerned or troubled. We ran into a team playing on another level and played them competitively for the majority of the game.

I’ve not seen #2

He has been good. Expecting more seems unrealistic.

46 fouls called yet so many not called then a bunch of nonsense called as fouls? Those guys were bad today
I felt like the officials really tried to take the game away from us yesterday. Today, I only felt that on one call. But yes, those guys were bad today.

I am not a "blame the refs" guy but tightly called games like that work against us in general, given how we play defense. And around the time we cut it to five, there were two ridiculous ticky tack calls on Okpara and Mashack. We weren't gonna win the game anyway, Florida is legit, I suspect the whole thing will come down to them and Duke assuming Flagg is good to go, but it is what it is.

For me the problem with games that are called this tight (other than it kills the flow of the game and gets people in foul trouble), is that when they do swallow their whistle it makes it glaringly worse.

Excellent assessment.

I know this....Auburn sure as hell isn't the best team in the country, they aren't even the best team in the conference. I'm not sure they aren't the 4th best now.

I was thinking the same thing yesterday. If I have the choice of facing them, Bama, or Florida in a do or die game, it's Auburn every time. They're a bully, thuggish team that wins by intimidation, but that isn't going to work against us or Florida.

Let's roll. Every game now could be the last for ZZ/Mashack and the gang. I want the second weekend. Anything above that first game is gravy and I hope we get a whole plate of gravy this time.

Barnes needs to find a few legit 6’6”+ guards, he seems to like to default to a 4 guard lineup.

And we basically only have 3 players 6’6” or taller on roster. So we struggle against teams with legit frontcourts.

Truth. The game today was about two things - Florida's depth with bigs and the hideous officiating. Florida could absorb fouls without guys being in foul trouble because of their depth, where we obviously can't. They crushed us on the offensive glass, and Rick couldn't stay with our bigs due to the deficit and needing scoring. He was in a no win situation as soon as we got in the second half hole.

What is amazing is that this was one of the only times all season where not having Estrella really killed us, which is a tribute to the job that CRB & Co. have done managing the roster all season.

The incompetence of SEC officials was never more glaring than it was today. The amount of bad foul calls, missed calls, and ticky tack calls was off the charts. It wasn't one way or the other, it was just really bad across the board.

I wouldn’t sleep on Houston.

And they do it because they love serving on the committee and doing the work. Your idea that they’re sitting back eating bon-bons all weekend because they finished the bracket a week ago is, again, ignorant.
You’ve been talking down on people for weeks, but hedge your bets on “if/whens.” No real discussion point here, other than you’re an ass.

I’d take 3 teams in front of them. As much as I laughed at Broome milking his injury against USCjr, they haven’t been the same since he went out that game.

Takes one to know one. Sherlock. Just because you have no idea what you’re talking about doesn’t make me the bad guy. Put me on ignore if you don’t want to hear the truth.
