Just an update...

Zakai Zeigler now has 714 assists for his career, 2 and he'll surpass Johnny Darden (715). He now has 245 steals distancing himself from Vescovi (212) every game.

Seriously impressive to have a PG score 1500 career points, 700 assists, 350 rebounds and 200 steals....truly a special player we've been lucky to have.

A few single season records we've seen made this season or in reach still

ZZ - 242 assists (and counting) previous record was Rodney Woods at 227 50 years ago!
Chaz (110) is now 9 made 3s away from surpassing Lofton for most in a season at 118
ZZ - has 64 steals, single season record is 78 held by LaMarcus Golden... 15 more isn't out of the question with a deep run
Felix - has 59 blocks, single season record is 73 held by CJ Black & Yves Pons (14 blocks would require a pretty deep run...the most he's had in one game thus far was 4)
I like Chaz a lot, but hope Lofton remains the record holder as in my memory he’s the best Ut distance shooter of all time. JMO

I wonder how long the list of players with those career numbers is, especially a player who didn't benefit from a 5th year of some sort?

All 4 seasons team won at least 25 games, 3 of them 27 (with this one still going).

If you're doing a Mt Rushmore of career (at least 3 years as a Vol) no way ZZ isn't on there for what he's accomplished as an individual as well as team.
If Mount Rushmore had 5 spots Im guessing most people would say Grant, Lofton, ZZ, Bernard, and Houston. Tough to leave off one of those guys

I don't want or need your money. Never did. Just wanted you to acknowledge you lost the bet and offer to pay.

If you change your mind let me know, I have no problem doing so. And I am sorry for forgetting and not seeing any of the bumps. I wasn't actively trying to duck anything. You were right and I was wrong.

Well ZZ is the only SEC player to accomplish it...I'll see what I can dig up.

Career all-time stats are a bit more difficult to pull for college than pro sports unfortunately...

Edit: Very short list

24 players have managed to reach 1500 points, 700 assists, 350 rebounds, and 200 steals in 4 years or less of college play.

One note, Lee Mayberry was at Arkansas when they were still in the Southwest Conference, that's why ZZ is the only SEC player to have accomplished it.

Ace Baldwin Jr. (PSU). Only active* Division I player and one of just nine Division I players since the 1947-48 season (77 years) to accumulate career marks of 1,500+ points, 700+ assists and 300+ steals.

Kadary Richmond. (St. Johns) (even w/o his 1sst year at 'Cuse would still have it). One of only nine since 1947-48 with over 1,500 career points (1,593), 700 career assists (782), and 300 career steals (313).

Branden Smith. (Purdue) Will almost undoubtedly get there, he's a JR.

*Richmond added to the list after that was published.

Ace is playing his 5th year at Penn State right now.

Braden Smith should for sure reach it though. 3 years and he's at 1338 points, 525 rebounds, 732 assists, 179 steals

I'm aware. (and would still have it taking his 1st year at VCU out).

Same with Richmond (and his 1st year at 'Cuse).

Yeah, for basketball call it a starting 5

G - ZZ (134 games, 1506 pts, 714 asts, 351 rbds, 245 stls, 21 blks)
G - Lofton (128 games, 2131 pts, 220 asts, 427 rbds, 193 stls, 12 blks)
G - Houston (128 games, 2801 pts, 460 asts, 517 rbds, 133 stls, 50 blks)
F - Grant (104 games, 1629 pts, 219 asts, 678 rbds, 89 stls, 160 blks)
F - Bernard (76 games, 1962 pts, 161 asts, 1004 rbds) - not sure how many steals/blocks he had

Might be a little undersized as Grant & King were both just 6'7" but I think we'd do alright.

What's wild to me is that Grant/King both could have set quite a few career records had they played a 4th year

Same with Richmond (and his 1st year at 'Cuse).

Baldwin would only have 345 rebounds then, the cutoff was 350.

Richmond is currently below 700 assists for his career with the 1 year at 'Cuse so he's below the cutoff.

1500 points, 700 assists, 350 rebounds, and 200 steals I listed the 24 that met those numbers in 4 years or less.

Houston over Ellis is debatable.

Ellis was a 2 time SEC POY and 2 time first team all-American.

Houston was a 4x all-SEC and 1 time 3rd team all-American.

Ellis dragged what would have been a second division group to consecutive NCAA's and should have beaten the great Ralph Sampson UVa team at least once. I wasn't around for BK, but Dale Ellis is the greatest all around college player I've ever seen.

If Tennessee is going to make noise in the tournament, they're going to need Lanier to hit a hell of a lot more than 9 three pointers. So. You're sort of stuck on that one.

Five best or best possible starting 5 unit? TN’s history is loaded with 6’6” and 6’7” forwards and off guards. King, Grunfeld, Ellis, Houston, Williams. But as a unit a Boerwinkle or Kosmalski would be needed in the paint to round it out. Or Reggie Johnson. King had Kosmalski for one year and Reggie was a physically immature freshman in their last. But in the 2 years in between TN was missing a big man when it was an era that required one. Doug Ashworth was out of position as a 1970s low post/center.

We’re likely going to be double digit favorites in both first weekend games. We very well could be double digit favorites in our sweet 16 game. Can’t remember a time we’ve been handed this wide open of a deep run in March. Really hope we take advantage of this, especially with there being a strong possibility of mayhem in the top half of our bracket.

Call me crazy but I have a good feeling this is the yr we get over the hump. Idk if we win it all, but final four bound due to our guard play.
