Us fans of the Vols couldn't be more upset with you. You've done nothing wrong since becoming the AD at UT...but we'll hate you anyways. How dare you don't address us about Gruden!!! Did you know that even though you and Jon himself knew it was never happening at UT, we created a monster on a messageboard and demanded an answer!! We can't believe you can't lure in a coach that we all WANT! It doesn't matter if he wants to coach here or not damn it! We will settle for Bill Belicheck, Mike Tomlin, Tom Coughlin or Nick Saban. Anybody else and you probably should look for a new job! We also can't even stand the thought of you going after guys like Butch Jones, Fedora, Strong, Petrino, Smart or anyone else for that matter. Even though you haven't told anyone who you're interviewing we know that's who it is. How do we know? Because all those same sources on here that knew Gruden was our next coach told us so. We need somebody that has at least 3 National Championships, has beaten Alabama, Florida and UGA at least 10x each and will guarantee us the top recruiting class in the nation. Again, we will settle for coaches with a couple Super Bowl rings. Now that you know our expecatations - We would like to wish you luck!!

Sincerely,
VolNation.com Messageboard

P.S. - This letter makes up about 95% of you on here and your expectations

I definitely wanted Gruden BAD, but I love the OP. This is great.

Gruden would have been an unreal hire, but we were shooting for the stars. Unfortantely, Gruden didn't want the gig. It doesn't mean the end of UT Football relevance....I've given tons of examples in the SEC where a coach was probably not the ideal hire and it worked out great for that school.

Miles (ok state assistant)
Saban (barely over .500 with Mich State)
Urban Meyer (2 years at Utah barely won at Bowling G)
Will Muschamp (texas assistant)
Mike Richt (uga assistant)
Kevin Sumlin (1 very good year at Houston)

Every other school made a leap of faith with these guys and it worked out great for them so far, yet UT isn't allowed?

I love this post enough to actually post myself for the first time. It has been maddening to see the venom spewed over rumors of good or bad, success or failure...before anything has actually been announced. To say which coaches would be great hires and successful, or to relegate others to failure before they have even been hired, much less coached their first game. It's nuts. Let the man do his job. Make your predictions based on who's announced. But please don't start burning mattresses until the next coach has at least one year to prove himself. I mean didn't Saban go about .500 or so his first year at bammer? Obviously he's a bad coach...right? :ermm:

Wait, wait, wait. OP had intelligence, reason, and logic. How did he sneak this thread past the guards of lunacy. Administrators say they dont read message boards. But I dont wonder if Hart doesnt sneak a peak just to get a good laugh. There is no show on TV that can make you laugh more than reading the ridiculous stuff people post on here. Honey Boo Boo aint got nuttin on this board when it comes to people saying and doing ignorant stuff.

No doubt! Not that a coach ever would come on here, but if they did and were thinking about coaching at UT....could you imagine hearing how terrible of a hire you would be before being allowed to coach 1 game?

Some of these people scare the crap out of me. Were I a coaching candidate here, security would be one of my first questions...

LOL - They choose to ignore it and search all over for another inside source that wants to tell us that "Gruden's agent is lying, he is just trying to cover everything up"

Oops I mistakenly opened the Harts ass kissers thread.....if what Gruden's agent said about Hart only contacting him today to do his due diligence then he needs fired immediately

Far from kissing a$$, just trying to allow a guy to do his job without calling for his head. If you don't think the expectations to lure in a Top 5 coach in america is what is expected by our fan base....I suggest you snoop around on here

I understand that you probably never got a formal education in PR and you have no idea how PR works. The fact that he is not a candidate is all that can be gathered from the latest news. All other "information" being given about what transpired is completely spun for PR.

I wouldn't assume that anything out there is true until the new coach is introduced. Posturing is part of negotiating. Ever bought a car? Ever walked away? If not, then you weren't really negotiating. These boys play hardball with large numbers. It isn't for the weak.

That said, should UT really be paying the money cited for a guy that hasn't coached a single college game? That feels like a very big risk at a time UT can ill afford another failure. I would far rather hire a solid competent coach that can consistently get 10 wins, than to be so he11 bent on championships that we do something stupid. And FWIW, I attended the Fiesta Bowl in '98...I'd love to do that again. But I would even more love to see Neyland full every game...even if it is just hard fought games against FL and butt stomping Vandy. Just my opinon...

Oh were allowed but I think the patience has grown thin because of Dooley. Too bad for us, but out of the ones you listed seems like we got the one that sucked!

Best thread on Volnation. I love that now the OG's are claiming Hart botched the Gruden hire. It can't possibly be the fact that the OG'S started an email list and just kept telling each other what they wanted to hear. My favorite part is where they started writing blogs and linking them like it is a reputable source. Notre Dame, Florida, and A&M all hired up and comers and were successful, but at Tennessee we only have time to hire the hottest coach on the NFL market. Give me a break with this garbage.

I guess I can post when I want and where I want and how I want :good!:

You can, but you probably shouldn't use that privilege to crap on others by completely misrepresenting their position. I don't know Hart from Adam. He may be a complete incompetent, however, until there is proof of that I am inclined to let him do his job. Not complicated.

Never took a class on PR n college....that I admit....but I am not a complete idiot to not understand an agent will protect his client....but why isnt Hart at least coming out with a statement to deny that today was the only time he contacted Gruden's agent? This is what is making Hart look bad.

How was I misrepresenting their position.....if Hart actually did just contact the agent TODAY...then that is a complete failure...no ifs, ands or buts about it....

If it is false and he did contact him prior and this is just PR for Gruden then I will give Hart a chance....but we don't know bc they will not release any kind of statement. We don't need an update every hour but one every couple weeks is not asking much or at least one disputing the agents claims.
