2014 F Kevon Looney

Referring to Jayvaughn Pinkston committing to TN. Scheduled a press conference to announce and cancelled it the day after Tobias' surprise visit. It was just a very good sign that Tobias was going to commit.

I wasn't insinuating that one of the current commits to decommit. Just remembering the first true sign Tobias was going to commit.

Ok I figured that's who you were referring to, I just knew he wasn't a commit at the time which is why I was thrown off. Agree though that him canceling the announcement was one of a few good signs though.

Are you talking about JayVaughn Pinkston? He was a heavy lean, but I don't think he committed. Most knew it was one or the other and few felt that they could coexist if they both wanted to come. I'm glad we got Tobias though.

Yeah I don't think he was officially committed, but he did have a press conference scheduled to announce and cancelled it the day after Tobias made his unannounced visit.

That was a wierd one for sure. Word at the time was that Pinkston was okay with playing with Tobias, but that Tobias' "camp" didn't want to play with Pinkston. That seemed odd at the time, but when Maymon later transferred to Tennessee, it came out that Tobias and he wanted to play together. They had met and become friends playing on the same team in the NY IS8 summer league. So, when Maymon transferred to Tennessee, he basically claimed the spot Pinkston would have taken. Worked out great for Tennessee as Maymon was/is a better player. Too bad he and Tobias never really got a chance to play together. If Tobias had come back, he and Maymon could have been some kind of force to reckon with. Of course, if that happens, Tennessee doesn't have room to take Stokes mid-season.

Jayvaughn would've been good for UT too, he's doing pretty well at Villanova I believe, he's scored more consistently for Nova and he's going to be a main reason Nova makes it to the tournament this year.

Update up on 24/7. Basically restating the same things. Had not heard this before though.

If Looney chose Tennessee, we don’t think his family would be the reason. We think it would be because he loves the coaching staff, the facilities, the general vibe around the program and, perhaps most important, the availability of early playing time. Duke, on the surface, seems to have more potential roadblocks than Tennessee as far as early playing time. In short, Duke seems to have more young talent at the “4” position on the floor, and Looney wants to play as much as possible as early as possible and go to the NBA as early as possible. And, to be honest, he definitely seems to be a potential one-and-done player from a talent standpoint. Some people who know Looney claim he’s intrigued by the idea of helping put a program “on the map,” too, and that would certainly favor a place like Tennessee or Wisconsin over a place like Duke, Michigan state or UCLA.

Possible announcement on ESPNU

The bottom line is Looney has taken all five of his official visits and is scheduled to make his decision this week, and we’ll bring you the absolute latest as soon as we hear it. We think his decision might be aired Thursday night on ESPNU.

I looked up Jayvaughn and found another parallel to Jeronne. He went through a leg infection scare, too, although it appears he won't miss any playing time.

Possible announcement on ESPNU

Hadn't heard that about playing time, but that definitely makes sense. If his goal is to be a one or two and done that's a much easier path somewhere like Tennessee or Wisconsin or even Michigan state, but not Duke.

I had however heard that about being intrigued by putting a place on the map. He supposedly likes the idea of being THE Legend and not just another guy at Duke.

Well just gotta hope he realizes he can be the focal point next year and still play with talent around him. Coming in with 3 other freshman that can contend for minutes.

It's because he's played it close to his vest. And generally speaking, top recruits go to Duke over Tennessee.

I dont consider it a big deal right now but it usually always slips out to one or two people right before the announcement.
