Everybody like who? Fans? Not any experts. We weren't a top 25 team so how were we supposed to be a Sweet 16 team? No one is tempering expectations. We weren't ranked so making the NCAA is fulfilling expectations is it not?
But you didn't answer the question. What would be a successful season? What is a successful season for UT basketball? If just making the NCAA is not a good season what is?
Why don't you just view the threads about this very subject prior to the season starting?
It's funny how the Martin advocates have tempered how they view success.
The OP is the biggest Martin Koolaide drinker around and he is going to use some posts to turn the tables. I will tell you what a good season this year will be FIRE MARTIN!
not dying of a heart attack by seasons end.For UT in your mind.
Finishing above projections
NCAA trip
NCAA trip and a win
NCAA trip with no losses to lower seeds
Sweet sixteen
Elite Eight
No matter if you like Martin or not or want Pearl back what do you think is a good year for us? No qualifying factors just what is a good year.
IMO we have went backward the last 2 years. I know Martin's record is better the latter part of the season but it's those early games that you can't afford to lose that have come back to haunt. Berth to the dance and winning the first game should be the expectation! That's what have been used to, before Pearl was canned.
Keywords: In the NCAA.You do know Pearl lost in the first round twice with way more talent than this right? Including a 30 point beat down. He also was a 2 seed that won on shot with 2.9 seconds (by the great gift he inherited CLO) vs number 15 seed Winthrop. They promptly lost the next game to another lower seed. The other year they got to the Sweet 16 and were blown out by a lower seed again.
People seem to think Pearl was going to the Final Four every year. He had two good runs in the NCAA.

Sorry, but we're gonna have to disagree that those teams were way more talented than this one.

This is Martin's third year. Pearl's third year he had a better roster.
CLO over McRae
Stokes/Chism pretty even
JaJuan Smith over J Rich
Ramar Smith over Barton
Tyler Smith over Maymon
Those are just the starters.
Off the bench down low Crews and B Will over Pops and Reese/AJ. AJ and Reese aren't even really post players.
JP Prince and Josh Tabb over Armani and Q
Not even close.
The first year was even worse if you look at the inherited players.
I'm pretty much with you on all of this.
Its funny how the most anti Martin or Pro Pearl posters haven't answered though. I'm curious as to their thoughts on what is a successful UT basket ball season. Does it change depending on the roster? Sweet Sixteen every year? What?

I'll second that. Its funny how you being one of them fightingMartins that you want to ask the anti Martins or pro Pearl crowd. Where is your answer to your own question ? Im anti Martin because he is a joke. Martin being a joke has nothing to do with Pearl. This years team. The sky was the limit for them. They just don't have the coach to coach them up. So why don't you fightingMartins tell us what is a successful season is suppose to look like ?
