Vols are not underachieving

That's why most of us want Pearl back because we made the sweet 16 regularly with him and he did make us a top 15 school.

How dare you. He only made the 16 or better 50% of his tries.
He did what he was supposed to do and got us there 100% and even in his worst season.
Mediocre guy.

Id say this team is overachieving!!!! They are about to achieve something I wouldn't of seen at the beginning of this year...Helping in the assist of getting their coach fired!!! I call that a win...way to go TEAM:clapping:

Our fans like to say our team is underachieving this year. Truth is, there is no such thing as "underachieving" or "overachieving." You simply achieve or you don't. You are who you are. The fact that we are losing more games than people think we should is due to the fact that we don't have that much talent and are not that good to begin with. If we had Pearl, we might win two extra games, but let's not kid ourselves into believing we would be anything more than a bubble team. Bottom line: we are not a basketball school and never will be. We have never been very good. Making the tournament does not mean you are a good team. Consistently making the Sweet 16 means you are a good team. Unfortunately that's not gonna happen anytime soon. So my advice is to save your energy Vol fans and focus on football and hope we can win five games next year.

No man. There is a such thing as overachieving and underachieving. This post would be spot on if we had Kentucky's roster (a bunch of guys that's never step foot on the court with other college players) because then you could say this. But after watching most of these guys for 2 and 3 years (some 4) than you sort of know what to expect. If you have a team that makes an elite 8 run, returns the next season (with the same core of players) and barely finishes .500 and completely misses the tournament, do they underachieve? Yes!

Advancing in the tournament is mostly about matchups and getting a favorable bracket. I believe this team is sweet 16 good and should be playing for seeding instead of a bid.

I might have to agree with the wisdom that says we're not a top 25 team.
With a roster clearly better than at least 4 teams in the top 25, we shouldn't be.
Even if we were sitting here with a 20-4 record like we should be, I can see no way we'd be ranked.
All these teams with 19-5 and 19-6 records deserve to be there. Not us. we're Tennessee.

20-4 with with the same wins plus X on the road, UTEP, TAMU, Vandy, and NCSU has UT ranked easily. All games this team could have won with a good coach

Never been good in basketball? I seem to recall a number 1 ranking not even very long ago.

It really isn't hard to see that this team just isn't coached very well. Have you watched any games?

I guess 2 projected NBA draft picks on the same team is considered " not much talent"? Try again, coaching or lack thereof has killed us this season.

Pearl took a bunch of guys that I didn't even think were SEC caliber and won over 20 games with them in his first year and this team is way more talented than that. If Pearl were coaching this team they'd be worried about seeding, not getting into the tourney.

I agree, if Bruce was still here we wouldn't be talking about this.

I love when people don't know what they are talking about when saying we are not a basketball school. We rank 4th in SEC in total wins in basketball. We were ranked 2nd until the Cunzo years & Bama & Arky passed us. Sounds like a school that takes basketball pretty serious. Including, we have been ranked high in attendance even back in stokely days. Go Vols go get a coach.

I disagree. I think with Pearl, this team has a much better record and in the top 25. CCM is a good man but not much of a coach. Just my thoughts based on what I have seen.

So Pearl would have a team not ranked in the preseason with only 4 losses and top 15? Even thoughhe had more talented teams both ranked in the top 25 preseason that had years like this or worse and won 19 and 22 games with first round exits and losses to scrubs during the regular season .

Some of y'all are funny.

Yes I think that Pearl would have done better with a roster that has two veteran SEC POY candidates than 15-9.

Then what happened the year we had T Smith? We had about 4 of those type players. We started ranked no 14 . Lost to several scrubs, only won 22 games and lost in the first round. We dropped all year . That team had twice the talent this one does.

^^^ This guy thinks that Maryville HS would beat the Vols because they never lose and the Vols lose 5-7 games per year. His nephew's 6 year old team went 8-0 this year so they were better than Pearl's last year that lost 15 games.

I shouldn't have clicked on this thread. I knew I shouldn't have. Dammit.

k-town_king, I'm trying to understand your thoughts on Zo. I truly am. Are you just arguing to be contrarian or do you really think that Zo is one of the best college basketball coaches around?

Do you really think that this team is performing as it should?

And finally, do you think Zo is the long term coach for the Vols and will have us consistently in the tourney and competing for SEC titles?
