’14 GA ATH Elliott Berry (UT Signee 2/5/14)

and 22 seconds.

It was a brisk morning but the sun shone brightly on Rocky Top. A sense of calm lingered in the high country until that fateful moment when the Angels smiled down on that city nestled amongst the mountains and Eric Berry announced his intentions to play his college football at the greatest university in all the land. It was at that moment that the heavens opened and the thunderous sound of the Angels rejoicing shook the very foundation of the greatest football institution ever on the face of the earth.

I like to think The Lord looked down at that moment and knew that it was good.

EB is definitely a legend and a heckuva football player. However, saying he was friendly contrasts with what I remember.

He lived in Gibbs when I did (his freshman year). I don't remember thinking he was all that outgoing, because he never said anything. Compared with Chris Walker, D-Mo, and Ben Martin (who were hilarious and very personable), he was kind of standoffish. Looking back, I think he was just kind of shy at that time...and he may have come out of his shell later...so I'm obviously not saying you're wrong at all.

EB is one of the nicest UT players I've ever met.. He was quiet tho

I don't recall anyone ever saying they had any specific information that it was going to happen.

It's just embarrasing to the entire UT fan base to even discuss it. People sit here and think, Eric is rich and a VFL so let's take advantage of him. That's pretty much what it comes down to no matter how you sugar coat it.

Can we seriously drop the whole "Eric will pay for his brothers" stuff?? Come on people, the Berry Bros are worth the scholarships...can't we just leave it at that???

GO VOLS!!!

I don't recall anybody who discussed saying they should be asked or saying or even implying that they Berrys are not worth the scholarships. The discussion was if it was possible that the Berrys offered to pay and could that possibly be a reason Butch is recruiting like he has more than 30 scholarships available. A bunch of people on here just got so irate trying to shoot it down they didn't even read the discussion. Nobody said it had happened, nobody said it should happen...the discussion was COULD it happen and so far nobody has come up with any reason it couldn't happen.

He could be referring to me. I think its been set up for awhile. That's just me. Probably am very wrong. Who cares. Including tuition for 2 in a bundle gift from eb doesn't seem crazy to me. He would be giving no more than already planned. Just allotted differently. Don't know why that is far fetched. The Berrys are a smart family and James is tied in with a lot of UT folk. This would be a business deal and some are too emotional about it to look at it from that direction.

I'm not going to believe in this, but I will say I hope you're right. A semester of tuition to circumvent the signing limit rules and then placing them on scholarship in the Spring would be a pretty sweet way to tell the SEC what they can do with their signing limits.

Haven't seen this brought up, but it seems like a pretty good idea, is this a real possibility???

Crazy People: "Hey there! What if EB14 paid for his brothers to walk on!"

Sane People: "Oh please no! Make it stop!"

The reason: Because it is a totally stupid expectation for their family members to pay for their education when they can get a full scholarship from UT. It makes no sense and I am shocked that adults would even think or talk about it. Wake up and get into the real world. JMO

since they're twins, maybe we can trick some people and only count them as one scholarship. maybe people won't realize it (and just think that Berry guy is all over the place)

So if you were a multimillionaire you wouldn't buy your alma mater two extra schollies? Especially if you were one of three people in in the world who could do so legally?

I can think of a lot of better ways to spend $100-$200,000.

Amazing how easy it is to suggest how others should spend their money.

There's more involved that just the scholarships. The athletes get the use of many things that a "regular" student on scholarship does not get such as the food, the training facilities, medical help and other things.
I'm not a multimillionaire so I have no clue about what they do or how they think. From what I've seen most of them are more interested in making more millions than they are anything else. JMO

It's not even buying. There is fluff or vig in every transaction. If EB donates 750k, with admin fees, lawyer fees, etc, it's not 750k. It's more. What if some fluff was taken out and realloted to cover tuition, etc. The gift from EB doesn't change, the program can put more players around the Berry bros to help them be a better team faster, their 2015 sholly's are reserved, and for you James, your business networking contacts will multiply tenfold. And Eric, we'll also name the db film room after you.
Boom. Let me talk to them about it. I'll get it done.
