Maybe the coaches are looking to run something similar to Ellis Johnson's scheme at USCjr. 4-2-5 with a hybrid LB/DB (spur in their system) at the nickle corner spot.
I could see Elliott fitting perfectly in that spur role.
UT was in a base 4-3 about 25% of the time this past year. Most of the time, UT was in a 4-2-5 with either Swafford/Toney as the nickel.
It wasn't that high, it was about 50% though.
I think generally people get stuck in the 4-3 mindset and put too much emphasis on the 3rd LB and not enough on the NB.
Brent Brewer played under 50% of the snaps on defense last year.
Because he is 200 pounds coming into college without the lateral quickness necessary to play Corner or Nickel.
He is a SS or LB. I think LB.
Haven't seen anything about his lateral quickness one way or the other.
He's a trained 200lbs. He can probably get bigger but I'd be surprised if he adds 18 LBs in a month like Payne has.
I feel like McDowell is a more likely LB candidate but I guess we'll see.
