I just don't see this happening. Eric Berry would be taking a huge financial hit just to allow UT to sign two extra players this year, who may or may not work out. It would be incredible if he were to do that, but not something we should bank on.

I don't see it either and besides the twins deserve schollies IMO. If E.B. did that then gift tax wouldn't apply, and he certainly has the scratch to do it. If it did happen the Berry twins would instantly become my two favorite recruits.

Actually gift tax would not apply if he paid the tuition directly to the school and not by way of his brothers. You can pay it directly to an institution and the 14,000 annual exclusion does not come into play.

The non qualified expenses would be consider part of the exclusion though.

Regardless he shouldnt and wont be asked to do that.

Yeah that's what I'm saying. Higher education expenses along with medical expenses and basic maintenance don't get counted towards the annual exclusion either.

Agreed that he shouldn't and won't be asked to do that.

Haha, not really. I think his current deal is worth somewhere in the neighborhood of $60 milion.

He won't and he shouldn't. They've earned their scholarship offers to UT. We're fortunate to be able to sign 31-32 players this cycle. Butch will make it work and the Berry Boys will be part of it.

I know this sounds crazy but "What If" the Berry brothers walk on at Ut? I know realistically that it probably won't happen, but Eric does play in the NFL and paying for his two brothers tuition shouldn't be a problem. I'm not saying I think this will happen, but it would be amazing if it did.

A huge financial hit?? This is the same EB that was a 1st round pick and has several endorsement deals worth millions of dollars? I'm not saying he has to bankroll his brothers education but to think its a huge hit is ludicrous.

If the twins are silent commits at this point (I hope so!) I think it probably has more to do with allowing Butch to maintain some 'space' in the class to continue recruiting. As we all know, he has to keep recruiting right through signing day due to the inevitable unforeseen circumstances (recruit flips, doesn't qualify, etc.) Much harder to continue recruiting successfully when everybody knows you are at your max with public commits. I don't expect us to have 30 public commits until very close to signing day for this reason.

They could walk on and then eric berry (their older brother who plays for the Redskinds) could be rich enough to pay for their school
