‘20 NC SG Jaden Springer (UT commit 10/23/19)

How would Memphis be considered the favorite? Had he even visited there? Also, all five crystal balls are for UNC, a team he's certainly visited. That being said, I think we will land him.

Did I miss something? The last prediction I heard was Rob Lewis betting on the Vols landing him.

Attending IMG Academy (Florida), Springer will hit the road this weekend and visit Michigan. The Wolverines currently employ Phil Martelli on staff who has previously coached Springer’s older cousin, DeAndre Bembry, during his head coaching days at St. Joe’s. Memphis will be up next as Springer will get his first look at the AAC program on the weekend of September 13. The Tigers are a legitimate suitor for Springer and could even be considered the favorite prior to his visits. Springer remains in state next by taking an official visit to Florida on September 20. The Gators will also host Myles Stute and AJ Hoggard during his trip to Gainesville. He then returns to his home state and visits North Carolina as fellow five-star Greg Brown will also be on campus on September 27. He will then complete things at Tennessee on October 4. No in-home visits have been scheduled just yet but some are expected to be made this fall. A signing in November is not a definite but chances are likely that Springer will be off of the board by then which would lead to an early signing.

I read this post, but somehow missed that. No idea what this writer is basing his opinion on, but I've seen nothing else suggesting Memphis as a potential favorite.

Same, again I don't think he's even visited them yet. I would guess they aren't in the top 2.

Not trying to piss anybody off but I just want him to to be here if he wants to be here. Obviously I love his game!!...

But the Vol in me hates that he’s got Florida and Memphis in his final picks.? I want our players to hate those schools(throw in KY) more than any other.

What Barnes has going can’t work if guys aren’t all in. Imo
Edit.. I’m not saying he’s not!! Just hard to understand a guy really feeling you(UT) if he’s also feeling Florida and Memphis. JMO

Well he lives in Florida, and Memphis is a hot team right now. No big deal, how many players have we gotten in football that have been considering Alabama or Florida at one point? A good deal I'm sure. That's the nature of recruiting.

Man if we limited ourselves to purely life long Vol fans we wouldn’t be in good shape

Where is this even from on Rivals? Who wrote it? Seems like a Memphis homer, because nothing has ever indicated Memphis is the favorite for him

Make no mistake. Memphis is definitely a legitimate threat. Springer's dad is heavily involved in his recruitment and he had very glowing remarks for Memphis as a program and Penny as a coach. They aren't just a hat on the table.

I know BTO sees Michigan as our biggest competition, partly because of Phil Martelli being an assistant there, but I still contend that Memphis is right there with them in terms of potential threats in this recruitment.

I absolutely love Martelli, probably from his guest spots with Basillio back in the day. That one St. Joseph's team, he had thatl was maybe ranked #1 and was undefeated for 3 quarters of the season. Fun team to watch and root for, I think they had DeLonte West and another guard that made the NBA, for a minute.

Jameer Nelson. That was a really good team.

We’re still a few weeks from things heating up on the basketball recruiting front in terms of visitors, and frankly with two 5-star commitments already in the fold, there’s not a lot going on in the 2020 class other than waiting to see if Tennessee can land an unprecedented third 5-star when Jaden Springer makes his decision. We expect that decision to come shortly after he makes his final official visit to Tennessee, on Oct. 5.
My stance hasn’t changed, which is this — you can never discount something crazy happening when you’re talking about a top-ten type national talent in basketball, however as things stand today I think Tennessee is starting the fall as the clear-cut team to beat based on what I’m hearing. Could someone make up ground during the 5-6 weeks before he makes his official visit to Knoxville? Certainly, that could happen, but as August draws to a close it definitely feels to me like Tennessee is in the driver’s seat.

Does the signing of Stokes at Memphis have any bearing on Springer's recruitment there? I read that Stokes took the only remaining scholarship. Same year as Springer?

I guess you have to figure on at least Wiseman being 1-and-done and maybe 1 or 2 others. They will find room for Springer this far out. Same way Tennessee isn't going to stop recruiting Cam Hayes and PJ Hall if Springer takes our last scholarship.

Stokes is a transfer being added this year to the roster, they are full on paper but likely will have attrition (NBA/Transfers) so they’ll sign a couple in the fall.

I agree that Memphis is a legit threat. And as Rob Lewis has said multiple times, you never count a 5-star egg till it's hatched. But I've never heard the Tigers referred to as a potential favorite for him till that post, which leads me to believe that writer is grasping some.

It’s Corey Evans of Rivals, fwiw he had forecasted Springer to UT months ago but has since switched it to Memphis just a couple days ago, so I’m guessing he’s had to of heard at least a little something. If you look at his picks he’s really accurate, and obviously has some inside info because many times he makes a pick/flips a pick and then a kid announces to that school a couple hours later.

I think it will come down to North Carolina and Tennessee for Springer's services. Memphis could be a dark horse.
