‘20 SC PF P.J. Hall

I'm well aware of us pursuing Cardwell as the backup plan, and possibly Anselem if he reclassifies to 2020. I'm just saying it wouldn't shock me if we swung and missed on Hall and then decided to not take anyone else. I'm not saying that this is the likely outcome. Just that it wouldn't shock me if they felt really comfortable about certain 2021 options.
Barnes wants to oversign, and they want a post to do it...they may not oversign, but it won’t be because they didn’t want to.

Agree to disagree. I would be very surprised if that happened with the entire season, spring evaluation, and transfer season still to play out after Hall decides. If you simply mean we may choose to not sign anyone in Hall’s place in the fall signing period, I’m more inclined to agree with you.

This. I have no idea what happens with transfers. That's always hard to predict. I just think if we miss on Hall I wouldn't be surprised if we didn't sign someone in his place this fall. Just looking at our other options, it seems we're cool on Cardwell according to both Rivals and 247.

I would put much stock into the cool/warm stuff...VQ just recent reiterated that Tennessee is recruiting Cardwell and if they miss on Hall they will quickly turn to bringing Cardwell on campus. Now...maybe they miss on both, if that happens then yes, they likely stick with signing just those 3. But in Rick Barnes perfect scenario he wants to sign 4 with the 4th being Hall or Cardwell.

Just like I said...

Moses Moody was expected to visit Gainesville last weekend, but once Mike White and his staff felt good about their chances with Lane, they decided to change plans. Instead, Moody will visit Arkansas next weekend and the Hogs are now in an even better position with the in-state star. Michigan and Oregon are also involved, and keep an eye on Virginia as well.

I was oh-so-close to making a pick for
Matthew Murrell two weeks ago in favor of the Gators but after landing Lane, Florida is all but out for the top-50 guard. Instead, Auburn, Ole Miss, Texas and Vanderbilt’s chances improve immensely. The Memphis native will visit Oxford this weekend and proximity could play a factor. However, if anyone can make a late run, it is Shaka Smart who will get have notched his final official visit date.

My FutureCast selection for
P.J. Hall has been Florida for some time now but by taking Ruzhentsev, it looks as if the Gators are full in the frontcourt. Four finalists now remain for Hall, but his recruitment will ultimately come down to Clemson and Virginia Tech. He will visit Blacksburg this weekend.

So why is Mike White turning these guys away if UF has so many open spots?

If Vols miss on Hall, they still have Cardwell and Ezewiro as options. I wouldn't worry too much about it. I'd like to have Hall for sure, but UT has some very solid backup options.

Hopefully Springer and Cardwell complete the class soon and we can move on to worrying about 14 scholarship players with a limit of 13. Obviously it's a fireable, ungodly offense by Reverend Barnes.

Saying the staff choose Cardwell over Hall shouldn’t be taken literal imo

It appears to me that Cardwell was a bird in hand kind of player and any preference the staff had over Hall wasn’t big enough to risk going 0/2.

It seems likely to me the staff liked Hall better but realized that missing out on Cardwell wasn’t worth the risk.

This is kind of how I believe it played out.

Having said that, I need to see Cardwell commit rather quickly for me to continue believing it's the case. If he drags this out a couple weeks into the early signing period, then I become less certain of that.
