Of course, the 6 leading scorers were only in that position because of all the injuries; Gak should've been our starting center... didn't play a single game. Stokes should've been his backup, but he was overweight, refused to stay in shape, and couldn't run the floor... that lack of conditioning exacerbated his ongoing injuries from before he even joined the team. So, then we tried plugging Hayes into the center role, but he's too slight-framed to accomplish anything in the post; and we tried to give him a little help with Stone... who promptly got injured and was also lost for the year. So then, Bassett gets pressed into duty; and he was not ready to be there at all.The 6 leading scorers last season didn't miss a single game, though. Hard to believe that any other injuries were enough to account for finishing 20-16.
Your 6 leading scorers were arguably your 6 best players, though. Gak isn’t a difference maker. He’s a depth piece. Aside from giving some needed size, I’m not sure he puts any of those aforementioned 6 guys on the bench and takes their place.Of course, the 6 leading scorers were only in that position because of all the injuries; Gak should've been our starting center... didn't play a single game. So basically we had a guy 6'9", but built like a small forward, trying to play both the center and power-forward positions; and a bunch of guards. That's why getting Blackshear was such a big deal. Gak has rehabbed well and is good to go; but he's also stayed injured his whole life, both before UF and since... so I'm going with a "I'll believe it when I see it" attitude on his ability to get through a whole season.
Try playing a season with literally no bigs; that's what it was like... even Stone wasn't playing like a forward, more like a SG. He never mixed it up, battled for boards, or played defense; just tried to set himself up around the perimeter for 3's... infuriating trying to get him to use his size; that's why he was encouraged to transfer. If he doesn't change that facet of his game, they'll be calling him "No Stones" in Miami.Your 6 leading scorers were arguably your 6 best players, though. Gak isn’t a difference maker. No doubt Florida should be much improved with the addition of Blackshear plus Mann and Lewis. I’m just not certain White is that good of a coach. As I said, he has regressed since the E8 appearance, and seemingly underachieved relative to the talent he’s had to work with. Gak and Stokes don’t move the needle, IMO, as being the difference for a 20-16 team. Losing Stone was more impactful, but Florida was an underwhelming 10-7 in the games he played in.
I guess that is part of the issue, though. Florida’s refusal to get the ball in the paint, either feeding the post or driving the lane, caused them to shoot themselves out of numerous games they had the raw talent to win. Where was Mike White, and why does he allow that to continually happen?Try playing a season with literally no bigs; that's what it was like... even Stone wasn't playing like a forward, more like a SG. He tried and tried to get that kid to use the tools he DOES possess; but he just couldn't be an aggressive player... and truth be told, he was one of my favorite players. Tennessee wasn’t exactly flush with size, ourselves. 6-10 Kyle Alexander and 6-9 John Fulkerson were our only two regulars over 6-7 and neither would be described as a banger in the post. But, we had a team of guys who knew their role and you didn’t see Grant Williams hanging around the perimeter, and you didn’t see our guards taking 35 3s a game.
White has to have more control over his team and game plan and right now, I question how in control he is. He is a better coach than Josh Pastner, but his inability to dictate control seems very similar.
I won't pretend to know if we're going to land him; but the more I read about him the more I like all his attributes and gifts, beyond just athletics... seems like a genuine good kid with his head on straight.Florida poster, you guys are getting a great one in P.J. He has terrorized us for two years and we have a great high school basketball history and six state championships.
If I'm Coach Barnes then I'm getting on the phone and calling his teammate and #2 player in SC Myles Tate and trying to pry him away from VT but that is probably going to be tough because his bond is probably strong with their new head coach from when he was at Wofford and recruited him early on in the process. Tate is the real deal and outplayed Zion as a sophomore when Dorman played Spartanburg Day School.

Did I miss something ? Did Hall commit to Florida ?
I'm not happy about it but it has been a done deal. I'm just trying to get our fanbase to not get its hopes up. I wish I had better news, I REALLY do but check my post history and accuracy in the football recruiting forum. I called Crouch to UT three months before it happened and never wavered.
Please understand, I’m not questioning your connections, but I just don’t see it being a done deal, yet. If it were, then why hasn’t he just committed to Florida? I mean, wouldn’t that be the easiest decision? He has a sister there, his family obviously likes it and is comfortable with it, and he has OV’d there. It just doesn’t add up. Florida might be the leader, and I feel like Tennessee could have pressed harder early on, but if UF is the clear landslide winner here, he’d have committed already, IMO. There just doesn’t seem to be a logical reason for him to hold off unless it isn’t as much of a done deal as you believe.I'm not happy about it but it has been a done deal.
