It certainly appears we’re in the mix for more highly ranked recruits than before English. Is it just coincidence or has English contributed to that?
-VQ.Another name that’s been percolating with some Tennessee buzz this week is big man Ryan Mutumbo out of Atlanta, the son of former NBA standout Dikembe Mutumbo. A skilled big man, Mutumbo is the No. 87 ranked player in the country. I had been under the impression that Mutumbo was a little further down the Vols’ board, specifically behind Chuck Bediako. After making some phone calls today it seems that was the wrong impression and that he’s a definite take for Tennessee right now.
Based on talking to a few people the Vols are in the thick of that one. Obviously Georgetown has a connection there with has father having played there and with current head coach Patrick Ewing. Not surprisingly Georgia and Auburn are also heavily involved along with Georgia Tech and others, but consider him a priority target at this point.
Josiah James was pretty highly rated, as was Keon and Jaden who were both leaning Vols even before English. I think winning and building that culture has had just as much to do with it.It certainly appears we’re in the mix for more highly ranked recruits than before English. Is it just coincidence or has English contributed to that?
That team in the first video was playing horrible defense. When you’ve got a guy that much taller than everyone else you have to front and have help side come as soon as the entry pass is coming to either step in and take a charge or swipe the ball away before he can catch it. Or you can guard him from the backside and move him off his spot so he’s not catching it so close to the basket, let the entry pass come in and have help double him towards the baseline. Make him make fall away shots instead of layups and dunks right at the rim. They weren’t even trying on defense. He moves pretty well for a 7 footer. I woulda thought he’d be a little slower
