Yeah I would assume if he is announcing this quickly he isn’t waiting an entire semester to come. He is probably filling out the paperwork as we speak. But, wow. This came out of nowhere. Interesting pickup for sure!

True. Though the back up PG spot doesn’t seem super settled to me. Lots of dudes who can play PG, but not really any I’d say that PG is/should be their primary position
Agree there. I'd guess Vescovi or Powell make up those spare minutes, most likely, but ZZ Rocky Top certainly may sneak in a minute or two. And he may just redshirt.

I’m betting on Powell. ZZ (or any freshman) can’t redshirt if he plays at all unless he suffers some sort of injury, right?

Hope he red shirts and battles it out for the PG minutes with Edwards for the following 3-4 years!

I’d stick with JJJ as a Magic-esque PG option and let SV and VJ focus on being wings that are 3-point threats. I don’t know enough about Powell and have no opinion if he’s better suited to start off his UT career as a PG or as a 2G.

I think Powell is better suited as a Sg than as a PG, but I think he’s better suited at PG than any of our other players other than Chandler, if that makes sense

I don't know this for a fact, but I'm a solid 99% confident that the deadline means nothing.

Here’s a fun deadline story. Student finished his PhD dissertation (> 200 pages) after 6 years, which was due on a Friday at 5pm. He shows up before 5:05, door is locked. He bangs on the door and can hear people still in the room but no answer. He had to stick around for another semester and pay fees just to walk down there again and turn in the same document.

The summer of 2021 has been one for the ages for many players, after not having been able to compete in the summer of 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which shut down the players’ ability to compete for scholarships in front of college coaches.

Fast-forward to the present day, there are two players that made their presence felt on both the asphalt scene and on their respective AAU circuits. The two players in question are Maurice Odum and Zakai Ziegler, two point guards that have had the tri-state area buzzing. Both have some big similarities, as they’re both from the New York area (Odum is from East Harlem and Ziegler is from Brentwood, Long Island), they both went to high school in the state of New Jersey (Odum went to Union City for his first three years of high school and Ziegler recently graduated from Immaculate Conception in Montclair this past June) and both had big summers on the AAU circuit.

...Ziegler, a 5-10 point guard, is a great facilitator, but also manages to get baskets himself. In 15 games last season, he averaged 20.2 points per game for the Lions, and was the Super Essex Conference Player of the Year and was an All-State Second Team selection. In his three seasons at Immaculate Conception, he finished with 1,012 points.
New York Ballers Make A Splash on Grassroots Scene

  • A guard that is smooth with his play and has great energy on the floor. Is a player that has jet-like quickness and uses that in transition to get to the basket with ease. Has the ability to get his teammates the ball at the right spots & makes sure they are in position to score. Recruit The Bronx

  • A guard that has a penchant for controlling the game and his team with his awareness and court vision. Has the ability to run a team in transition and is an asset to whatever team he is on. When driving to the lane, he uses his slick ball-handling skills to get into the lane for two. Recruit The Bronx

  • Pit-bull point guard who is transferring to OSL, Zakai had a great spring and put high major schools on notice. Lightning quick, it’s nearly impossible to stay in front of him. Can shoot out to 25 feet and finish around the basket. Recruit The Bronx

  • A guard that makes heady plays and has great energy on the floor. Is a player that has plenty of speed and uses that in transition to get to the basket with ease. Is the engine that makes his team go on offense and his teammates feed off of his energy. Recruit The Bronx
