⚽️Lady Vols Soccer Thread

Have read 3 times about a bad collision with Claudia Dipasupil. Apparently she was kicked in the head. Anybody at the game today that has any info?

I thought for sure that Duke would be without their best player, CF Michelle Cooper, when we play the Blue Devils, as Cooper is with the U.S. U20 team now competing in the World Cup.

But The Netherlands thumped the U.S. tonight 3-0, and now the U.S. is in serious danger of not making it out of the group stage. If that happens, Cooper would be back in the U.S. in time for Duke's match with us.

The U.S. will have to beat a good Japan team, and I think by multiple goals, to advance. They could do it, certainly--but won't be easy. Japan is the defending U20 WC champion. Japan leads the group, with a 2-0 record, and the U.S. and The Netherlands are tied for second, with only two teams going through, I believe. The Netherlands plays its last group match against Ghana, which is 0-2, and the Dutch will be favored. If the Dutch win, they stand a good chance of advancing--though they will be without one of the best defensive players as she got a red card tonight and cannot play in the next match.

Reading a coupla posts from UNC fans on another board, they don't seem too concerned about the Vols. One said it might be "a decent test." Who can blame them--21 national titles, a roster with almost 40 players and stocked with 4 and 5 stars--and we're still trying to go to our first College Cup (Final Four). The Heels beat BYU yesterday in their last exhibition, 2-0. BYU has an excellent coach and program--has been strong for years--and they play a very attractive brand of soccer. Recall that they lost the national championship last year via PKs to Florida State. Had an outstanding team. May not be quite as good this year, but I don't really know. We played BYU in Provo maybe 7 years ago, fairly early in Pensky's tenure. They bossed us. :(

You see the Dipasupil collision in the first part of this clip. She said she has a concussion, hope she has a quick recovery.

That’s a big distance to travel just for a preseason exhibition match.

Good Luck to VFL Cariel Ellis this season at Lamar University.

Cariel Ellis - Forward - Madison, Miss./Madison Central HS (Madison, MS)

Ellis joins the Cardinals' squad after her junior season at Tennessee that saw her play 14 games and score two goals for the Volunteers. Prior to playing in Knoxville, Tenn., Ellis spent two seasons as a scoring machine for Holmes Community College.

In 39 games, Ellis tallied 64 goals and dished out 23 assists for 151 points in her career. This would include nine game-winning goals. Her freshman season saw her with 48 goals and 15 assists for 111 points that earned her Region 23 Player of the Year, NJCAA All-Region, Academic All-State, MVP, and All-American honors.

At Madison Central High School, Ellis finished her career with 24 goals and 10 assists as a senior, which gave her All-State honors and seven times was she named player of the game. A Kinesiology major, she is the daughter of Robert and Rhonda Jacobs.

"Cariel comes to Lamar as a highly decorated and highly motivated transfer. She was a junior college All-American who scored loads of goals and then played at the Power 5 level this past year. Her ability to change a game with her speed, power, and skill will be a massive asset to us the next two years. I can't say enough about how excited we are to have Cariel as a Cardinal!"
- Nathan Kogut, LU head coach

I hope my mental health is good after this game. It will be if we are competitive and play like the good team we are supposed to be, even if we don't come out on top. We really need to be defensively sound in this game and try to grow into the contest. We don't want to make mistakes early and fall behind.

If Dipasupil has a concussion, I assume she won't be playing in this game. That would put extra pressure on Zuluski to play well. She's somewhat undersized and not all that strong--but will have to play big and strong in this game, for sure.

How is Florida predicted to finish last in the SEC?
