1/5 of Gen Z (1997-2004) identify as LGBT.

I'd think part of the increase seen with Millennials and Gen Z has to do with the time it takes for some to understand/accept their sexuality. Explains why older generations have remained generally static.

Which would be another argument against transitioning kids. But the issue with your argument is that at no point would you have found 20% of previous generations identifying this way

My brother is a HS history teacher. Told me there’s a femboy who dresses like a cat every day in one of his classes. He’s forced by admin to address him as a she.

I’m glad I never went through with teaching after I got my history degree. I couldn’t do it.

Although not the entire reason (more discipline related) this is partially why I got out. The number of “they/thems” (attention seeking little girls who acted feminine, dressed feminine, but needed extra attention) was astonishing

Even if I were to entertain that being gay is genetic.
Even if I were to entertain that there’s always been this many, just closeted..

A 1 in 5 genetic defect that negates the primary purpose of our existence, reproduction, is astronomical and could never be explained off as natural occurrence.
Keep in mind not everything under the LGBTQ+ umbrella is strictly same-sex. There's a lot of opposite-sex relationships captured in there.

It seems undeniable that the number of trans kids specifically has blown through the roof relative to previous generations
Ok but kids have always gone through phases for acceptance. There's a huge difference in changing your hair/clothes to having surgery. It's modern goth

A friend of mine has a son in high school. I think he got in trouble a few times for wearing a hat inside the school and they say it’s not allowed because it causes “distractions”. On the flip side it’s ok for kids to wear a tail or a bird beak. We live in a bazaaro world.
Not to vroom off on a tangent, but when I was in high school, nobody could have weird hair colors due to distraction.. I don’t let my daughter do that while she’s in high school.. We told her she can knock herself out during the summer (she was a redhead one year lol) or when she goes off to college.. but school is serious business…she seems to have gotten it out of her system and likes being a blonde now (as it should be) lmao

True, but then a lot of those who would have identified in 2014 were wiped out from AIDS.

Assuming those kids aren’t provided hormone blockers, I agree with you. Once they are provided hormone blockers it becomes more than a phase. It becomes a lifetime sentence

Agreed but those are rare cases imo. I don't see that as the norm

I have never been a proponent of transitioning children. To me, 18 is the minimum to even consider, along with plenty of professional counseling.

Yes they are. Anyone can call themselves transgender without actually making any physical changes. Especially for a survey
I just don’t see how, even if they just want attention, you don’t think it’s disturbing to consider that as an option to get it.

I also don’t see how you think the mid 2000’s goths, or even the 1980’s hair metal guys are the same thing. Those were all still men who knew they were men

I’d openly question the masculinity of both goths and hair metal guys. For very valid reasons too.

interesting take but then shouldn't the millenials have stopped growing. the median age Millennial would be mid 30s in the last 2 measures but showed a pretty good jump.

also wonder why there would be so much generational difference between Gen X and Millennial as both are at the age of maturity.

I'm genuinely curious about the difference - are the old timers either not self aware enough or lived in denial for so long that they are under representing? Probably. Are the younger generations more apt to say yes even if they haven't figured it out? Probably. Is that enough to explain the difference? Who knows.

I’m 26, the hair metal era is before my time, but as I understand it being a fan of the music… they were far from gay. I’ve read and watched a lot of material about bands from the era. Its honestly astonishing they haven’t been “metoo”ed. sure they looked like pirates in satin, but they weren’t gay.
I am more comfortable questioning the goths. Robert Smith from the cure wasn’t exactly manly in any way. Most of the hair metal guys were.

It is curious. I think there are likely multiple factors at play. Older generations are probably more conservative in reporting even with a more open society. Also, Gen X (my gen) has also been impacted by AIDS. There were simply fewer of us around when this polling began.

Without transitioning it's still just dress up or play acting

I would love to know the immigration status of those in this study. Do they claim to be "American" - i.e. several generations have been here, 2nd gen, 1st gen, immigrant? I am willing to bet, most of them are several generation inhabitants that have issues.

Well, the good news is, not all Gen Zs have lost their minds, some think this all very ‘cringe’ lol
