This is just sad.
Here's another way of looking at this. Historically, Tennessee is the second best team in the SEC. Next year, Tennessee will be the second SEC team to win 800 games.
If Tennessee is happy with 8-4, they should let all the fans know Tennessee has no intention of remaining competitive with it's rivals. Furthermore, Tennessee should stop spending money on facilities and cut back on it's recruiting budget.
Get real - before you get to 10-2 or 12-0 you have to be able to convincingly win 8-4 as almost a given...something that is darn hard to do in today's SEC. If after 3 years, Butch has had 3 seasons of 8-4 or 9-3 with winning bowl games - how much MORE likely do you think it is that we could actually GET a Saban/Urban type coach with the right money?
Right now, you are smoking dope to think that ANY coach who is at the top of the heap already would lead our program for any amount of money we could pay. The only way to get that guy is to get someone who was top of the little pile and hope he can do it in the bigger pond. I am hoping Butch can pull it off - but if not, I am pretty confident that he can at least get us to a level where we can be seriously attractive again - both to players and coaches - because we are winners and not just because of our fanbase size and the money.
Nonsense. Arkansas certainly isn't any better a job than Tennessee, and they just hired a guy who's been to three Rose Bowls in a row. They're paying him about the same as we're paying a guy who's never coached anywhere other than the minor leagues. You've got battered wife syndrome if you think we couldn't have done any better. Instead we conducted a minor-league coaching search and got minor-league results.
Getting Bielema to follow 3 years of a Petrino built program of 34-17 (and one year of Smith blowing it as interim) - is NOT the same as trying to get someone to follow 4 years of the path of destruction made by Kiffen then Dooley. They had a successful program before Petrino went wild - not national caliber but solid - something to build on. UT? we have a program that Kiffen all but destroyed and Dooley mismanaged. Not nearly as attractive - except to those of us who see everything through orange colored glasses.
Minnesota's been in their time of rebuilding for 50 years. Sometimes it's not a cycle. We're in a conference full of teams with vastly better recruiting bases than we do; becoming a permanent has-been is a legitimate risk.
Come back to this board in four or five years if Jones is finishing middle of the pack in the SEC. Overwhelming sentiment will be that he's doing a good job and he loves UT and remember how awful it was under Dooley. The minority who will want to cut bait and move on will be called miserable aholes and terrible fans.
You're preparing for failure before giving Butch Jones a fair shake you miserable son of a *****.
Your sentiment is the reason we got rid of Fulmer and the reason we're in this position in the first place. :finger3::finger3::finger3:
If we would offer saban 10 million with a 3 million assistant salary pool we would get a championship in 4 years. you can shoot me down and it is a crazy amount of money but hes a speacial coach.
Now back in reality I support Butch 100% and think we will do fine, and maby win the east, but goodness. Its not really about them beat ND that was expected. Its the 3 championships in 4 years that makes me think we will never beat bama with him coaching there without bama having a bad game.
