10' AL LB John Propst

the coaches had two weeks to recruit these kids and we still dont have a a d coord or d line coach i am for one extremly pleased so far of dooley and are staff at getting guys in that we need

Not trying to stir up the debate again but 40 times posted anywhere that are not laser timed are notoriously unreliable. Hopefully you are not drawing a conclusion based on .1 seconds difference on a hand timed 40?

That's the first clue. Second is the list of schools that offered him. He's not in alaska, he's in the deep south, sec territory. Savana backyard. Combine those two facts and that's enough to give an indication that he is a reach.

CDD and LT evaluated the other guys highly also. Doesn't prove anything regarding Propst.

I don't know how CDD's crew evaluated Propst. I just don't think you can claim he's a reach if you admit you are just looking at his 40 time, size, and offer sheet.

Lol there is no way you can claim he is not a reach by looking at those facts. 40 time is slow, recruiting service didn't rate him high, no other top recruiting schools went after him, he is in the heart of sec country at a well known powerhouse school so it's not like he didn't get some exposure. How on earth is that anything but a reach?

CDD saw fit to offer...end of story.

Scintalating... I'll have to check back later for more insights... Of course he did, he needs bodies and at this point you take flyers on kids like this, someone who doesn't have the straightline speed but you hope his playing speed, instincts, something can make up the difference. Yes cdd offered, but no way he would have if several others ahead of him were still options.

WVU plays the 3-3-5 D. It is built around speed and guys that get where they need to be when they need to be there.

There is no real "clue" to a 40 time that isn't laser timed. If you don't believe me, check out the number of supposedly 4.4 guys in college who are significantly slower at NFL combines.

I seriously don't know what your issue is. Are you assuming he can't play because he's melanin challenged?

OK let's try this one more angle....

King 3*- played
Mitchell-Thornton 3*- played (4.72 40 reported by Rivals btw)
Lathers 3*- started
Reviez 0*- stud LB
Donald 5*- Gone
Askew 4*- RS because he wasn't ready to play

I'll try one more time because you seem to be challenged in the reading comprehension area. I have never said he can't play. I have never said he won't be a good player. I hope he does well because we desperately need more linebackers. I have said all of these things before. I have merely said that the signing of him is just not that exciting to me because there is no positive evidence that he will be an sec caliber player. Period. I hope that he is the next Patrick Willis (2star to probowl), but the statistics say that a higher rated player is much more likely to become an all American or all sec caliber player. Period. I am saying that I would be happier if x hadn't jumped ship when he did and left us in the position of taking players that the odds say have a lower probability of being the type of player we need. Now I don't know how much clearer I can make this. If you don't get it now then check out that hooked on phonics thing, I hear it does wonders.

On the radio today he was asked why he wasn't more heavily recruited. Paraphrasing here...I guess my size, my forty time....Asked if he knew his 40 time and size he said...6-2 220 and my best time is 4.68...then he said....yeah, I want to prove to the schools that didn't recruit me that I can play, IT'S AN HONOR TO HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO PLAY IN THE SEC.

He was polite, well spoken and I'm glad he is a VOL. GBO

If you had watched film on him, I would respect your opinion a little more. But there's no way you can make this statement.

You know nothing of CDD's big board. You didn't watch the kid. You looked at 3 things, and an offer sheet.

We'll see how it plays out this week. I have no idea if this guy is a flier or a reach. I just choose to give CDD the benefit of the doubt until NSD at least.

Its not personal, man. We all want the same thing. I hope we do well, starting Wednesday.

I don't take what you said personally And your right that we both want the same thing in the end. You said I just looked at the measurables and his offers. Well yes, that and the time he is being offerred is all you need to know to see he us a reach. In no way do you need to watch film to know this is not the prototypical guy and and I'm sorry but if you don't think there are a lot of guys that were higher on cdds board then I just don't know what to say, if that is not a given, then he is not the recruiter I'm pretty sure he is. It's not that I am bashing the kid. I've never said I don't think he can be good. I've never said I wish we hadn't taken him. Judging by his interview on 990 this afternoon he knows he is a reach and is greatful for the chance. It irritates me when people don't read what is actually written. They see something other than "great get!" or "he's going to be the next aj hawk!" and they somehow feel that the kid is getting bashed. I'm irritated because Carroll leaving has put our recovery another year behind in stead of one more year of agony, we've got at least two now. And looking at this recruiting class just hammers that home. Sorry if you feel like I'm being negative, because I'm not, I'm just mad about the situation we are facing.

I know what u'r saying.......losing Michael Taylor, Ralph Williams, 2 very fast LB's and replace with lower ranked guys, but CDD only had 3 weeks, so he's doing all he can.......I think we'll be ok, really, we have alot of young talented LB's......let's just hope we land Stanley, but it's not lookin' good........:hi:

Cdd is doing a phenominal job. He's just jammed in a no win situation. And everybody on here is mystified why established coaches in stable situations said no to this furball.

who is the furball?

Stepping in as the head coach of the tenn program 3 weeks prior to signing day with a nightmare schedule next year, minimal talent on the roster and fans who still think we beat teams "well, just because we are tennessee". That furball

yeah.......tough job.........but no reason to freak out at this point......let's wait and see, we have a long time before fall..........:hi:

ILB John Propst, 6-2/215, Hoover (Ala.)
COMMITTED TO: West Virginia
ASSETS: He has excellent instincts, above average ball skills and a real passion for the game.
AREAS FOR IMPROVEMENT: He needs to shift some bad body weight around and add a few pounds of muscle mass in order to be a force in the middle of the defense.
WHAT WAS MOST IMPRESSIVE IN PRACTICE: His ability to read the quarterback and sniff out screen passes and dump passes to the running backs. It was almost like he knew the plays before they were called.
CONCLUSION: This hard-nosed kid will most likely redshirt for the Mountaineers. That extra year will allow him to add on the muscle mass necessary to take the pounding of Division I football. He should also end up being a stalwart on kick coverage teams.

I like him. He punishes the ball carrier any chance he gets. I think he'll be a great ST player for us.

FWIW Probst is rated far higher than Williams...

Good stuff! :eek:k:

I think Avery Williamson would have been a better target than this kid but from watching his video he looks solid... Avery is better imo
