imo we have a good chance to land this kid. wonder how he went under the radar for so long, he's starting to get a lot of attention.

I am not sure the level of talent he was playing against but it appears he has great closing speed. Could be a great pickup under the radar.

What's the source for our alleged interest in this guy? Not that I have anything against him. The highlight tape definitely shows some speed.

One of those ‘new’ prospects is another Lance Thompson find. Linebacker Raiques Crump from Minor, Ala., is a little known prospect from Adamsville High School. Jess Lanier High School coach Moreland Smith has long been known for helping prospects in that area get exposure. Smith met Crump back in November and has tried to help him become known in the recruiting circles.

“The kid is electric,” Smith said. “He is not identical to Ladarius (Owens), but he reminds me a lot of him. Raiques might be a little faster.”

At 6-2, 215 pounds, Crump has gotten some attention over the last few weeks.

“Alabama wants him as a preferred walk-on and Auburn has offered him a chance to grayshirt,” Smith said.

Smith put Crump’s highlights up on Youtube and on Sunday, Smith got a phone call from Thompson.

“I had been telling Lance about Crump,” Smith said. “He has known about him, but I guess he finally got a chance to watch Raiques' highlights with coach Dooley and Sunday they called and offered. I think he would be a good fit for Tennessee.”

Crump and Smith will visit Knoxville this weekend.

He's playing at the top level in HS football down here 6A football. Plays at my old high school at that. Love it hope we get him. He's as fast as he looks on tape too.

I saw some things on his tape that I like.

1. Great nose for the ball. Doesn't seem to be caught out of position and has a good feel for the game.
2. Really fast closing speed.
3. Good angles.

on the other hand...

1. Not as sure of a tackler, but a lot of times he brings the play to the rest of the defense.
2. Gun shots in his video music...just the last thing we need right now...lol.

he would be a huge Safety.... bigger than D. Myles. He looks like a very fast shifty OLB to me.

LD1, is he strictly a linebacker? Safety maybe?

He's a LB all the way. Minor produces a lot of talent that gets overlooked every year for some reason or another. I could post some of the other players' on defense youtube highlight tapes and you'd be surprised they aren't being recruited heavily. The defenses are always fast and furious.
