Sab, do you have connections inside the program to "know" this kind of stuff, or are you just guessing? just curious...thanks.
LWS and another reliable guy said the same thing on Scout yesterday. Rees is the guy the staff wants, they are divided on Rettig. I posted the info here last night. It's just so hard to find the actual info when you have to look throught 15 pages of meaningless posts...

Thanks Guys for the inside info...
Make sure you keep on posting about how the UT football staff is divided on Rettig so we have a better shot of getting him as it is clear that the UT staff is 50/50 in regards to wanting him! :clapping:

Ok Vader,
Than why did UT offer?
That's because the other schools know there is enough options that they don't have to gamble on Rettig. There is a reason he didn't have any offers until 2 weeks ago. There is a reason that EVERY SINGLE school on the West Coast has passed over him for another QB. This is not new news...

He had a notable Sophomore season, so it's not like the kid hasn't shown he has the goods outside of camp. His team bombed (largely due to a high number of offensive injuries and a brand new staff) his junior season, and lost interest. It's just like employers in the real world. you can have one small niggly (maybe an employment gap, more than 2 employers in the last 2yrs., etc.) in your employment history. It doesn't matter if you have good reasons. Employers don't give a damn what your excuse is, they will simply look for a candidate with no issues.
So, here you have a kid like Rettig, showing a lot of potential, and all the tools you're looking for, but these same schools have other prospects with a more consistent resume. It's an obstacle has had to wrestle with. Personally, I think you have a similar situation with Nick Montana. He just started (after transferring) last year, so there's not much to really evaluate him on, either. Maybe why the staff wasn't sold on the kid, while everyone else was mesmorized by the name.
They've taken other commitments from less heralded, under-the-radar guys....and the only reason they have considered doing the same with Rettig is that the kid IS the prototypical Kiffin QB. He's smart and will graduate early (can be here for Spring practice). They liked him at our camp...he held his own competing against Jesse at USC's and shined at the others.
THAT is why he got the offer, and Sab....you keep talking like you have Kiffin's ear or something. The fact is...you DO NOT know...nor do you, Vader.
You guys keep talking like you're part of the decision-making process. Nobody knows definitively, unless they are part of the staff. Are you on the staff, Sab? How about you Vader? Whatever is your opinion, why not state it as such. Saying "The Staff isn't sold..." is total bullchit. You have no freaking clue what they are thinking...stop acting like you do...for once.

At this point, the entire QB situation has been handled badly though. We at least needed one guy committed to give us some leverage in recruiting. Whether it had been a #1 or #2, shouldn't have mattered, because we are in NEED of a QB. Yes, Lamaison should show up in August, but he's not a part of this class. They should have taken Hendrix or Rees earlier, but they didn't because they thought they could land someone else. Sometimes, trying to sell depth isn't near as easy as selling success in the past few years or so.
