'10 CA QB Chase Rettig

Boston College puts many quality offensive lineman into the NFL. Don't kid yourself.

Compared to who? I know for a fact that we have placed more in the NFL in the last 10 years.

Placing quality OL in the league is one thing but calling yourself O-Lineman U is ridiculous.

Dubbing your school "random position U" doesn't really work unless you are known for being better at that position than most other schools and that just isn't the case with BC.

Are we really saying that a handful of successful OL makes you OL-U?

That same argument could be made for a number of schools.

I think you're getting a little too upset over this. I mean really, it's just a handful of successful prospects that get any school named "position-U" and it is almost always started by the fans or the media surrounding that one program. If we can call ourselves WR-U then they can call themselves whatever they want.

Nope, but they do have an impressive list of OLs on NFL rosters, that's all. Back in the 90's, we were known as WR-U, but I would almost bet the farm that Miami put alot more WRs in the NFL than we did. Just a moniker that fans like to attach to the university, doesn't mean it's 100% accurate, but it does mean that there is some truth to the claim.

He was acting like people around the nation call BC "O-Line U" all the time. Sure, they have a few linemen, but acting like they are THE O-Line U around the country (and acting like that is a common nationwide nickname for them) is rather laughable.

I didn't mean to say that it was nation wide it just like other schools with insert a position U. We have always put out top lineman, and if you ever watch the draft every time a BC lineman gets drafted the mention the great success and how good we are with O-Lineman. All five of our Lineman from this year could be and most likely will get drafted in the next 2 years. I apologize for the misunderstanding.

Yeah, I get what you're saying but I don't think of UT as WR U anymore either.

My only point is that one rivals article about BC being OL-U doesn't make it so and they have had no more placement than a lot of other schools.

We were WR-U from the mid 80's all through the 90's. Our #1, #2 and a lot of times our #3 WRs consistently went pro for over a decade which is pretty impressive.

1 or 2 OL drafted every few years isn't really that impressive. It is the norm at nearly every SEC school.

Granted, several BC OL have turned out to be good players on great teams and I can understand the praise of BC's OL technique coming out of school but it's hard to think of a school as position-U when a large number of other schools are competitive or better at NFL placement.

Exactly my point. If that's the case, I might start calling UT OL-U, DL-U, DB-U, RB-U, and LB-U because we have a couple of players drafted every few years at all of those positions.

How many OL were named from BC? 5 or 6? I'm pretty sure that there are more like 10 active OL from UT in the NFL right now.

That makes more sense. I do think it is impressive how many good OL come from BC, it's just not significantly more than most bigtime football schools.

It doesn't surprise me that the ones drafted from BC are successful because of the good coaching and the fact that BC's athletes are very smart.

BC is not in the same league. Nice program, Flutie was great but seriously second tier.

Can Someone Please tell me where we stand with him ata this point. Is he going to take an official any times and just what are the odds we can land this qb or another qb on our board?

Not someone I believe that the coaching staff is still very heavily interested in, IMO. I believe that if they don't land a JUCO guy, then we will probably take 1 and more on, even though a lot of people believe we are taking 2 QBs in the class. I would rather see what 2011 has in store since our staff has a head start on that class.

So is Chase or any other qb's set to take an offiicial....and what about the long shot guys like sims and others who are verbals at this point...I keep constantly hearing rumors we are heavy on them... whats your input on those questions?
