Back to Rettig just a reminder for those who think he is going to BC,
Does Rettig have a favorite?
I would have to say Tennessee, Rettig said. Its such a good fit for me, the offense and I are a perfect fit. I have a stronger relationship with this coaching staff than anyone else.

That's Brunetti..."I've been a BIG Vol fan all my life...I'm firmly committed to WVU."keep that quote somewhere and we can see if it turns out to be true... so many times, I've seen a kid say something like that and two days later he is committed elsewhere. :cray:
To his credit, Casey also came in with a highly rated QB prospect...Rattay. Same thing with Peyton. There were NO guarantees that Peyton would be the next starter, as he too came in with another highly rated prospect, Brandon Stewart (whom I liked a lot, too).I have no doubt as to what Casey is selling him. Peyton in one ear and Casey in the other = done deal.

I hope that Casey points this out to him. The inherent drawback to playing for a top-level team, is there WILL be top-level competition. With that in mind, Tennessee currently presents the most fluid situation among like programs.

Getting back to Rettig...it's likely CLK has offered him as one of the 2 QB's we take, regardless of Jesse's decision. It's his to take. And that may be why he's thinking things over...maybe if Jesse commits elsewhere he doesn't have to compete as hard for the starting spot.
If Jesse does commit to UT, does he wait and see if USC offers him, and would he be comfortable in a more concrete situation, where he definitely would be sitting for 3+yrs? With him and Jesse, it's simply a battle royale between the two, and IMHO, there's not a great degree of separation between the them.
In fact, if he and Scroggins were to both commit, they will certainly lure more talent to join them, as the key position in the offense would then be considered a strength. He'd have better players around him if Jesse comes along for the ride too, than otherwise.
Quite possible that Chase is a silent commit, and the staff asked him to hold off announcing until Jesse announces his decision. Instead of making him wait outright before offering, this makes the most sense, IMHO.
That's why I think they went ahead and offered following the Super 7 camp. He has shown increasing improvement throughout the summer camps, and I think that has helped solidify him as 1 of 2. Now, even if Scroggins does commit to UT, we are in a better position with Chase, having offered him beforehand, and our depth chart situation is still considerably better than USC's.
but he still got an offer....can one call it desperation on the part of our staff???
or maybe genius???
Look at the time that expired before he finally got that offer and the QBs that dropped off the board since he attended our camp. It's pretty clear that the coaches were divided on whether to offer him and came to the conclusion finally that they did not have a choice.
it's never clear when it comes to recruiting, but i know what you mean.
you could be right as your points make the most sense...i'm kinda on the wait and see boat with everything around our program.
it sure is exciting though....
