Probably the same number of Tennessee QBs who rode the pine during the same time.

Assuming 3 deep, over 10 years is 30 pine riders for one success or 45 over 15 years.

30/1 or 45/1 against riding the pine at SC. This is during the SC dynasty. Go back 50 years and the odds gets much worse. Or, go for 4 deep and get those odds.
Cassel is an exception, not a rule.

fyp..

Also, to me, the argument isn't even about the programs, it's about how best to get a 'look' from the League. The choices are playing somewhere versus riding the plank at SC.

I can't see how anyone would argue that it's better to ride the plank at SC than it would be to start at UT. The player is what makes the most difference, but the League is not keen on giving a QB their first start at that level. It's just a high risk, 7th round or free agent type of an investment. It does happen, but the "odds" are against that route versus the starting QB for another team option, especially a team who plays against the best defensive league in college football.

Still... this is all moot. He's going to USC.

Kiffin has never been a QB coach.

Off the top of my head I can only think of 4 $50 million QBs that the entire SEC has put in the NFL (Stafford, Russell, Cutler, EManning) in the last six years. I may have missed someone but it's not really relevant, the point is that USC as a team puts as many big money QBs in the NFL as the entire SEC. You are more likely to go to the NFL if you sit for 2 years and then start for 2 years at USC than you are starting 4 years at Tenn. How can you not see this?

ugh. both of you be done w/ this. Kid's going to USC anyways.

They're like Harvard-offering-a-full-ride and right now we can't compete with that. Kid probably knows too that if he can beat out everybody, doing so at USC will be another notch in his belt for going pro

Same thing happened to Pat Ryan here at Tennessee! He had a long career in the NFL and wasn't a starter!
