their alot of players in the same boat that scroggins is in sinking with no life vest and many will be like him and wish they would have went somewhere like UT where playing time was not just something a coach who wanted a 4stare promised to get the player only to have been a lie bag and they would not be red shirt juniors with less than a handful of snaps in game situation if any game time play at all.and with the outlook that it gets no better.same situation some running backs are heading into if they go to uga or bama promise of pt but sitting behind 4to6 four and five star backs from the previous classes.when they could come to UT.and get actual playing time because the vols have no superstars and only bourque out of current backs at UT seems like a back that can carry the ball 20 to 25 carries a game and he is thin legged. i wish i could give the kid the legs i had at that age very muscular and defined 17 1/2 inch calves and 28 and1/2 inch thigh and 13 inch ankles and in 8 years playing organized football and 9 in football one year of collage i never had to wrap my knees or ankles and never had any kind of leg injury besides when ankle was pinned between a guard rail and a several hundred pound honda 754 at 100 miles an hour.and was only on crutches 6 days.my upper body was well behind my lower body i was squating over 700 and leg pressing well over 1100 pounds. But maby devanta can thicken his legs up and learn to get his pad leval down and blow people up in the hole

Jake Heaps
Blake Bell
Jessee Scroggins
Phillip Simms
Tommy Rees
Chase Retting
Andrew Hendrix

Bray had been committed to San Diego State then started going to a few camps & blew up. The USC camp he attended w/ Scroggins is where he really got noticed. Kiffin jumped all over him after that camp, he came in for a visit for the WKU game that year then committed.

This is why it is so stupid for people to freak out so early on qbs. I would take bray over each of those. Then last yr everyone freaked but I would take peterman all day over anyone in the class minus Winston.

well we really weren't after Bell (we gauged interest like most schools did) or Simms.. we whiffed big on Heaps and Scroggins.. then at that point we didn't recruit a QB nearly as hard as we did those original two (Scroggins/Heaps).. especially Rettig.. we were on him at the last second.. so it's not like we straight up whiffed on 7 guys that year.

Right. I remember they both went to the USC camp looking for an offer, but USC was only going to offer the top guy. Scroggins finished first and Bray finished second so Jesse got the offer. Pete Carroll told Kiffin about Bray and the rest, as they say, is history.

I feel like that competition was rigged and Scroggins wasn't going to lose no matter what.. because I think I remember him being out performed that day but still winning.
