What the hell are you smoking? How are Worley and Peterman highly regarded?

Umm Worley didn't have a great high school career? Peterman wasn't a consensus top 10 national QB recruit last year? You act like we have 2 walkons backing up a scrub

Never said they are all heisman candidates, just name some deeper rosters at QB.

Worley doesn't project to have NFL talent at all.. and we have no idea about Peterman.. Worley's arm will never allow him to be a great QB.. you think recruits are scared to go to UF because they have the highly touted players in HS in Brissett and Driskell? Lol.

Peterman is a great prospect - but schools like LSU/Bama/UF/Georgia/USCjr/Arkansas/Auburn all have great prospects that were rated even higher than Peterman in HS.. like I said Driskell was the #1 player.. he really looked all world as a freshman.. I'm sure he's scaring off the elite QBs.

Worley was a system QB - if he had all the tools necessary to be an elite player in college he would have be rated higher. He could be serviceable here (and start for a year possibly) but I'm pretty confident Peterman will pass him by and he won't get significant playing time here any more unless its due to injuries again.

Our QB depth chart isn't scaring off QBs.. bottom line.

This may be true, but my point is our roster definitely is not helping and there are few, if any, situations in the SEC that are as deep as ours. Mainly because Bray has another year and Peterman may very well be a 2/3 year starter.

I fully expect UT to land another great recruit either sometime this fall after seeing our offense in action, or soon after signing day next Feb.

Not sure if serious? :salute:

I haven't been following recruiting closely this year - but I can promise schools with much better, deeper and more proven talent at the QB position are recruiting QBs just fine.. so they aren't scared off by Bray (who will be gone before most are ready to play) and an average QB.. and a freshman..

:good!:

You mean overlooked recruits like Aaron Rodgers, Drew Brees, Tom Brady, Ben Roethlisberger, and Brett Favre?

Or did you mean top recruits like Brodie Croyle/DJ Shockley, Vince Young/Trent Edwards, Chris Leak/Jamarcus Russell, Anthony Morelli/Chad Henne, Crompton/Mark Sanchez?

Come on...you know better than to make dumb blanket statements like that. The rankings coming out of HS are wrong more than they are right. I'm not saying Worley is going to be a Manning-esque talent, but you can't say he's going to suck b/c his ranking in HS was low.

He doesn't have the arm to play in the NFL. The players you listed that were under the radar coming out of HS and college weren't under the radar or rated lower due to their arm strength, Worley was. He would have been a top 5 QB in the nation had his arm not been comparable to Rick Clausen's.

Big Ben, Brett Favre, Brady, Brees, etc never lacked arm strength.

At one time, Brees was perceived to have issues with his arm strength. But now he is one of the more prolific passers in the NFL. Arm strength is a very important part, but it's not the only aspect. Jamarcus Russell and Kyle Boller could throw the ball 80 yards, but neither ever made an impact in the NFL.

While I'm not saying that he will ever win our starting QB job or do anything professionally, to just say his star ranking was low b/c he doesn't have that "it" factor is a bit naive. Recruiting predictions are a crapshoot. I'll trust the coaches and hope we don't have another Nick Stephens.

As was Brady. He was a bean pole coming out of college. Arm strength was a question as well.

This thread just won't die. Still would like to point out I own the 10,000th post on the original thread. Epic thread that was.....and apparently still is.

What it factor? I clearly said his 3 star ranking because he was a system QB with Rick Clausen's arm. He gets no zip on the ball on passes past 15 yards. He can be decent in college but it won't translate into the NFL. It doesn't matter anyway - if he was deserving of a better ranking he wouldn't be about to be passed on the depth chart by a freshman who won't relinquish that backup spot after he over takes Worley.

I didn't know we were recruiting guys directly into the NFL now. The point is not if he is NFL caliber, the point is that we have a decent depth chart that isn't conducive to '13 QB's playing in our system as freshman next year. They will have to wait at least one year, maybe more before they see the field, which is why we don't have our pick of the litter as of right now.

Elite QBs aren't scared off by Rick Clausens and freshmen. Also - none are expecting to play as a true freshman.

Explain this to me then - before we signed Bray - we literally had no one left.. Except we brought Simms in... We had far better recruiters with Kiffin's staff - hype around the program - yet we couldn't get an elite QB in... With a very very favorable depth chart. Jesse Scroggins chose to walk into a loaded USC depth chart with a future pro just 1 year ahead of him instead of walking into a potential starting job here as a freshman. Obviously the distance from home was the ultimate factor here - but he wasn't worried about red shirting and starting as a junior after Barkley was supposed to leave.

It has more to do with the ability of the coaches to recruit that position and the current state of the program. We have an average QB depth right now with only 3 guys and the best of the bunch being a junior. That certainly isn't scaring off elite QBs. Most QBs aren't like Gunner Kiehl (sp?). They aren't going to be scared off by Worley and Peterman.

I think part of the issue is Chaney's method behind choosing QBs and really doesn't fall in love with a specific one till late.

I guess this is where we disagree. I see two years of Bray, a competent Worley and a stud freshman QB. I consider our depth chart to be in a better situation than average. I think it's a legitimate possibility that any incoming QB this year sits at least 2 years maybe more and I think that has a bigger influence on why we haven't landed a top ranked QB as of yet. IMO I think they go for a guy than can RS and develop this year, maybe a guy like Woulard and then next year turn up the heat on a top ranked QB from the '14 class.

Edit: Just saw your edit and I agree completely.

The inability to sign Scroggins (or Heaps or any other QB from that class) had a lot more to do with the roster than anything. No quality line depth. No receiver depth. No RB depth. Seems like a dream destination for a HS QB to me.

The state of the program now is leaps and bounds ahead of where it was 2-3 years ago. No player should be "scared off" by competition...that's what makes a program successful. Let's not minimalize Worley's accomplishments in HS. He broke many passing records by...wait for it....passing. Whether he becomes another Casey (not Rick) Clausen or another Nick Stephens...that's up to him and how much he puts into becoming the starting QB.

Both Casey and Stephens had pretty strong arms. Unless Peterman ends up injured his whole career then I expect Worley to be a clipboard holder while here. There's probably a good reason Spurrier didnt offer that prolific HS QB that was right in his backyard.

And Heaps went to BYU because well... He was Mormon and that's important to him... And it's still kind of close to home. Scroggins went to USC because it was 20 minutes from his house and he wanted his family to be able to see him play.

People wanted to come for Kiffin at UT dispite the depth chart... We are in much better shape depth wise now than we were then.. But now our HC's future is uncertain and that doesn't help at all... Nor his record here do far.

I'm not defending Dooley's record b/c ultimately his job will be evaluated on Wins and Losses, but let's not act like other coaches would have won 10 games each the last 3 years with these rosters. Winning will cure all, and that's what I plan on seeing this fall.

And you're right...Spurrier didn't offer Worley. But LSU, Florida, ND, and FSU did. But they were probably all wrong to extend offers since Steve didn't --especially given his recent success with QBs.

Funny thing is, you're right that Scroggins went to USC so his family/friends could watch him play -- but that didn't happen. And Heaps went to BYU due to Mormonism --but his tenure there didn't last either.

I never said Dooley should have produced in his first two years. But recruits don't care about the excuses and what he had to take on. They just see him on the hot seat.

And extending an offer doesn't equal actively recruiting a player. Only LSU somewhat recruited Worley of those you listed. I think UNC was the only real competition towards the end for his services.

I would bet they worry more about those two than any other backup tandem currently on an SEC roster.

Its absolute lunacy to think any other SEC coaches, players or fans are worried about a BACKUP qb tandem. I mean really.. who do you think is worried about such a thing??

It was said in reference to incoming recruits looking at a schools depth chart....nothing to do with coaches or current players gameplanning against us.
