'10 CA QB Tyler Bray (Commit/On Campus)

College teams turn S's into LB's, LB's into DE's, ect......

He will gain alot of weight at UT~!

The QB position is different though. He'll gain weight as he ages and through a college strength program. However it's a little risky to try and pack on pounds in a hurry with a QB. You could really jack up a throwing motion or rotator cuff etc.

Ok...good point.
But, If he put on 20 lbs the correct way...he will not hurt his arm or motion.

Dont laugh...but vandy does a great job of signing smaller players and bulking them up the correct way. UT's coaches have NFL experience and can do this the right way......I think.

I love when people complain about a kids weight when they were in high school. It shows they know nothing when it comes to long-term potential, where coaches project a kid a few years down the road, etc...

People need to remember coaches in 99% of cases dont recruit a kid to come in as a true freshman and start!

Raynoch Thompson was 185 lbs as a freshman at Tennessee.
Erik Ainge who has a very similar build as Bray reported to Tennessee at 196 lbs.

Wasn't Peyton Manning around 195 lbs as well?

Some of you dont have a clue.

I agree. These guys (UT staff) can and will get it done the right way

Telling people they don't have a clue is a good way to get your point across. Anyways... you're right that most kids don't come in and start as freshman. They might have to here though. They might get one year to bulk up a bit behind Stephens. I highly doubt Lamaison ends up a starter. I don't know that he won't but if he doesn't, this years incoming quarterback will most likely start as a sophomore, maybe even freshman. If he gets recruited over than that quarterback will be starting as a freshman. So yeah, when it comes to the quarterback position... they may be getting thrown into the fire immediately. I do think incoming quarterbacks for this class will get one year behind Stephens though.

My point is if people expect most true freshman QB's to arrive on campus built like a college senior then, yes I consider them completely unrealistic and clueless. If some of them had seen Peyton Manning or Erik Ainge as true freshman when they arrived on campus they would have thought the exact same thing they are thinking right now with Bray.

And I agree that Bray may play early in his career at Tennessee simply out of necessity. I dont see him or any true freshman starting over Stephens next year but yes I could see him taking over for sure as a sophomore. 2 years from now he will look completely different than he does today from a physical standpoint.

When would Bray be on campus if he did come to UT? Does he enroll early? Would he be here for Spring?

I agree with that. At those heights, I don't know how big people could expect them to be at 17 anyways. 200lbs for big time high school football is normal. Whether you're 6'0 or 6'5. Just because you're taller doesn't mean you're going to weight more than the other kids around you. I think that's what some people are expecting. I am not worried about their weight at quarterback. Except for Bray and getting hit around the legs if his legs are still the same size when he becomes a starter. Those legs look like they could be easily be injured. Then again, Brady has pretty big legs and look what happened to him. I guess we was also getting hit by a 300lb monster though.

YEA ... just keep telling yourself that, linebackers & linemen love it when ball carriers say that. :dance2:

Joe Montana thinks you're lost. Randy Moss is extremely thick too. They must just be easing up on him, those big linemen and linebackers and such.

it sounds to me like we need to offer his reciever to it would probably help us on getting him to.JMO

I don't think Kiffin is in the business of offering schollies to players that may or may not be D1 talent just to get a QB that many consider to be second tier at best.

Who considers Tyler Bray second tier? It's being said he could end up being the best quarterback in the class. He just isn't expected to make an immediate impact. He is supposed to have the strongest arm as well.
