I live in the SoCal area, for job reasons, but California IS without a doubt always finding new ways to dig into your pocket book/wallet. Everything is more expensive. They try to classify a small pickup as a "Commercial" vehicle so you'll have to pay to get it weighed and then charge you more money (over $200 just to get California tags for my small Nissan PU). This is the most money grubbing state there is and yet they are broke.
I was in the Army for 6yrs and when stationed at Ft. Bragg, I got to frequent Myrtle Beach (SC) often and went to Daytona a few times. Then lived in the Houston TX area (20 minutes away from Galveston/the beach), and I personally think the whole "Beach" thing is very overrated and doesn't appeal to everybody. Especially after hearing of all the shark attack, squids, etc.
Don't have to worry about any of that out on the lakes in TN...and east TN is beautiful country...nothing like it in SoCal...so please, stop undermining the value of living in the Knoxville area. If you've grown up in CA all your life, sometimes the uniqueness you of East TN (2hrs from Atlanta...3 to Nashville or Charlotte NC....not far from the beaches of NC and SC) can be quite appealing to some. Just because you think more highly of living on the beach in California than in the plush hills of the Smokey Mtns, doesn't mean everyone else feels the same as you.
