QB competition is a must.

May the best man win. I hope it's Bray, but it will be difficult for him to win as a true freshman. The EE will help trmendously

I know it has to be somewhere in this thread, but what are Bray's stats for the season thus far?

K Town do you know Tylers stats for last night? And also have you seen most of his games , and if so how many of the 5 interceptions of his were his own fault?

Oct 30, 2009 7:30:00 PM - Kerman @ Kingsburg | Blitz | fresnobee.com

I have seen 6 of the 8 games. I did not make it to last nights game. Kerman was probably one of the better teams he will face this season. Looking at his stats from last night, it seems to be his worst game of the season so far with the 2 picks and less that 50% passing.

Having seen the majority of the games I remember that 1of the picks was a bad throw on the run back across the middle of the field, a bad decision. All the TD's tend to make you forget about the few mistakes. He makes FAR more good decisions on the field than bad. Just about 1 of every 4 completions is a TD.

A note on the passing %, his recievers were dropping
A LOT of balls early in the season.

A LOT of balls early in the season.

.
And some more last night. He had two td's dropped, one right through the guys hands on a 50 something yard bomb in the end zone and another when the receiver did not even look for the ball as he was running down the sideline ahead of the defender, by the time he did look the ball landed arms distance in front of him. He had a few others also.

Overall not one of his better performances, he started out fine and pushed them to 31-0 lead in the first half and then things kind of sputtered from there. He was under constant pressure, but Kerman was only bringing 3 or 4 guys and dropping 7 to 8 into coverage. The line should of been able to block them, but had a tough time. They did run the ball pretty well. He was getting hit on almost every play but did make some nice moves to get out of pressure and either run or make throws.

Not a great performance last night at all. Everything Flip remarked on is spot on. If only Dylan caught that sure TD. Bray had wonderful touch on that ball. Couldn't possibly placed it any better.

lv u know anything about miller and willis not being sold on ut yet???? i seen some garbage on another site somewhere gvx i think..

I dont think you can compare BB playing behind Hardesty to Bray playing behind Stephens. Hardesty is one of the top SR RB's in the country. I honestly dont think the QB "competition" between Crompton and NS was as close as CLK was making it sound. If Nick were really that close to him.....I dont think CLK would have left JC in there when he was playing terribly earlier this season. I dont expect Bray to come in and light it up next year like many seem to, however, I think he is on another level entirely talent-wise compared to any other QB we will have on our roster next year at this point (that would change if we get Newton or maybe even Simms). The people I know of close to the program believe that CLK has about 0% confidence that Nick Stephens can be a winning QB in the SEC.

Stephens will not be the starter at QB next year. I doubt he will even be on the team.

Why would he not be on the team? He has sat the bench for 4 years now without transferring. If he does, he will have to step down to FCS to play because he has already used up his RS year.

Stephens would be stupid to leave. He's going to have all of CLK's attention and I think him battling it out with Bray is going to make some great competition.

CLK is not going to play a Fulmer QB recruit when he has his own recruits to play at the position. If CLK thought Stephens was any good he would have already played this year when Crompton was playing bad. I think he pulls a BJ Coleman after spring practice (when he sees he is not the guy) and transfers.

Yeah his WR's and TE's could definitely help him out more. But the picks were his throws and his bad. But in Ty's defense alot of what they do on offense is part of the problem. The spread is good offense (and they use a little pro style also) but when you spread you should also make the WR's spread after the snap. Too many times i see 2-3 receivers in the same spot (the middle of the field). I would like to see them spread AFTER THE BALL IS SNAPPED, and make easier reads for the qb. JMO. If he isn't the qb that he is , they (Ktown) would have big problems throwing the ball with that scheme. He throws through very, very, tight windows.

Man, this kid has some potential. He is bulking up, but with his frame, he needs to bulk up A LOT.

That said, he really could be the total package a few years from now. He uses his size to his advantage when throwing. He does a good job using his natural leverage to put some zip on the ball. He obviously has really worked on technique. Bray, moreso than any other QB in the class, gets squared really well. A lot of QB's who rely on raw skill tend to drop a shoulder (or "fall off") to the side of the field they're throwing (of course, that #4 that wears purple has a tendancy to do this, so its not a tell-all). Bray keeps a nice "T" with his shoulders (ironic, right?) and gets squared really well. I'm not saying Simms or Heaps aren't just as talented (Heaps is very fundamentally sound, as well), I just think Bray does everything a bit better. If it weren't for his lack of speed and his frailty (and maybe competition), he'd be the #1 PS QB in the class, easily.

Stephens will get a shot. He will have a huge advantage as he will have spent a full year in LKs offense. That alone may make him tough to overtake.

They wont name a starter till Fall either way. Stephens will probably take most of the snaps in the Spring but he will make it a competition and see which one will rise above the other. I would imagine it will be something like 40/40/20 split with Lamaison getting the lesser snaps in the Spring. I like Brays attitude and his confidence, if he buys in he will be starting. Crompton was atrocious to start the season and they constantly said his bad is better than Stephens good so that tells me all I need to know about Stephens.

CLK has the rest of the season, spring, and summer to determine if Stephens is the guy or not. Let him make the decision that is best for UT football!

In a few years we will be celebrating Bray Day in TN! This staff will turn this kid into a stud! He has the protocal to be a great QB!

Bray had a pretty off game this past Friday.

He went 10 for 26 for 208 yards, 2 TD, 2 INT.

For the season, though, he is 107 for 183 for 2012 yards, 24 TD, 5 INT
