'10 FL ATH Matt Elam

So much has been made of Elam's close relationship with Meyer that, if he ends up switching commitments at the last minute, every Gator recruit should take note.Could mean Meyer leveled w the Elam family and he's not coming back. Pure speculation on my part, I know...just connecting the dots.

The Mod that gave me the info about Clark and Elam is real close to Jack(PBD HC) and he stated that Elam is trying not to stay the extra semester and waiting until FSU opens for biz Monday to get cleared for early enrollment. Many gators don't see it coming, but him stating that Matt hadn't spoken to Meyer was a tell all for me.
I'm sorry, but I find it hard to believe that Elam and Meyer haven't spoken.

I doubt Meyer has told Elam's family anything. I think this kid is smart enough to see through this garbage. Elam's HS coach has eluded to having suspicions that Meyer might not be entirely honest about his intentions.

People are seeing through this garbage and it will get worse for UF when this dead period is over.

Yeah that hard for me to believe but a gator mod is passing the info on

If Meyer isn't planning to come back and Foley knows this, do you think they go with Addazio as HC next year or would they go after a bigger name?

Seems like a crap trade off to secure a recruiting class for a crappy coach. Short term benefit for long term damage. I

If they begin a search for a new coach after NSD, do you think this damages UF's recruiting long term?

That's cool. I'm not buying it, though. Meyer recruited Elam himself, courted him for months, and didn't bother calling? Doesn't pass the smell test.

He never said he didnt call him. Who's to say Elam picked up the phone when he called.....Sounds like he didnt.

Josh Shaw and Mack said they spoke to Meyer and he told them that he is "returning in August as coach" but he going to recruit unitl NSD then take his LOA.

IMO UF would be better off just going in a new direction with a new coach. There are plenty of high profile guys that would love to coach there.

You can't coach in this league six months out of the year. Not while your rivals are putting in 18 hr days. Taking off 6 months isn't going to help his condition.

You're right...he didn't say that. Still can't believe they haven't spoken, unless Elam planned to switch all along and this just gives him the perfect excuse to blow off his commitment.

Exactly. I hate Meyer as a person but he is a good coach and has shown that everywhere he has went but he will not get by with less than 100% effort in the SEC and a milder version of himself is not going to cut it either. You get to be the best by letting the small stuff eat away at you and being consumed by getting everything right; if Meyer's health isn't up to par for this amount of effort bordering on obsession, does anyone honestly think he can succeed.

Yep. I really think he is letting his ego lead the way in this LOA decision. He is putting himself first instead of what's best for the UF program. He wants the best of both worlds, being a more involved father and husband and also the head coach at UF. It doesn't work that way these days and I believe he honestly thinks that if anyone can pull it off he can.

just got this message

"Mack Brown told people that Matt Elam isn't going to UF anymore he is going to FSU. The whole basketball/lacrosse stuff is a ploy to get coaches off his back. He still plans to be an EE. Mack will remain w/ florida as of now"

What FSU is doing is nothing short of remarkable, I think I could coach their D to a top 10 finish with the playmakers they are going to have.

Agreed. I don't want to hear any excuses from Nole fans if they underachieve with this talent in the ACC. Jimbo has polished a turd and made it appear a diamond IMO.

he is now the coach, and is the reason i say they still dont do as well as they can with the talent they have.

You are simply dreaming. haha

What if he has to have surgery and the recovery time is 6 months. Will that help?

Elam - do you really want to play for a dc that has an anemic offense like Nebraska making him look stupid instead of Monte Kiffin? Come on you are smarter than that.
