The thing with Kiffin's players is that we couldn't be sure how long they would stay in school. I don't think Kiffin put as much thought into recruiting kids that will stay in school and not be academic (or crime) casulties. Dooley puts alot of emphasis on kids with good grades and good character. It may still happen, but I feel more comfortable with the kids he recruits staying with the program for 3 or 4 years as opposed to 1 or 2. just mho

I think a very good majority of them are set to qualify.

Qualifying and staying in school are different to me. College doesn't really get easier as you move up the classes. I know Dooley has said that the one thing he wants to do with the freshman is make sure they become sophomores.

I think college gets easier after the first 2 years. That's jmo though.

I think it depends on what classes your taking. Most of college is being organized and making sure you don't forget deadlines. Passing college is easy ,but it's keeping a high gpa that makes it a bit more difficult.

thats basically what LV said tho, after 2 yrs, you should be into your major classes. *shrugs*

If Kiffin had stayed I think at least 90%+ of the guys he would have signed would have qualified. There might have been 1 or 2 casualties, but not many.

They cut loose most of the guys who's grade were looking bad (ie Broussard, Jose, etc.)

Lane Kiffin was putting together at least the #3 class in the nation prior to his leaving. While it would have been nice to have all of those players here, I feel better about where the team is headed and the sustainability of what we are doing than I ever did under Kiffin.

I agree.

They would have ended up with the #2 overall class by a significantly wide margin. Only Florida would have finished ahead of them.

They would have signed Robey, Ambles, Demarr Dorsey, Blake Sims, Calvin Smith, Brandon Willis, Ahmad Dixon, Christian Jones, Chaz Green, and JC Copeland in addition to the guys that stuck.

The only guy they wouldnt have landed that was highly rated that the new staff got was James Stone.

Rogers was a lock too if they had decided on taking the package deal. When Kiffin left I know they were still up in the air about taking the package deal.

IMO they would've tried to get Kyle Prater (who was visiting that next weekend) and if that fell through, they would've taken the package deal.

I agree. If they had landed Prater they wouldn't have gone with the Nance/Rogers package deal. If they hadn't landed Prater then they likely would have.

Damn, I hate thinking about the "what if's" of that class. It would have been the best overall class to sign with Tennessee since the Grant, Lewis, Coleman class of 96.

Man you sure are a Kiffin homer... Kiffin had no chance with James Stone or Justin Hunter.. They are two of our biggest recruits out of this class. Dooley will bring in a much better group of overall players than Kiffin could at UT. Kiffin would have had us on probation within 2 years had he stayed and alot of people in the south did not like Kiffins attitude. Im glad he's gone. We will be alot better without him

How in the hell am I a Kiffin homer? Because I said he would have had the #2 class last year had he stayed at Tennessee? Personally, I cant stand the guy, but he was a great recruiter.

LOLLLLLL Justin Hunter was Tennessee all the way, well over a week before Kiffin left for USC. Everyone in the football program knew that one was coming because of his relationship with the track coach and Garza. That comment right there proves you have no clue what you are talking about.

And I already said they wouldn't have landed James Stone. Did you conveniently miss that comment in my previous post?

While you are right about Stone, he would've been replaced by Chaz Green. As for Hunter, some reliable posters on TOS say that O and CLK's plan for Hunter was to pull a Janzen Jackson signing day switch a roo. Even under the new staff, Hunter committed to Willie Mack Garza. He also had a great relationship with the track coach all the way.
