'10 GA DE J.C. Copeland

I originally thought we would never be able to hold on to JC but it appears the coaching staff did a good job and Im glad we got em.

So Rivals is off by 3 inches?

Yes

J.C. himself said in an interview he was only 5'10" his junior year and is now a few hairs under 6' tall. He won't get any taller than 6' but that's okay. His motor will make up for it, trust me. UGA didn't even offer him due to his height, so he's got that chip on his shoulder...

That's hard to believe, could we not use him at MLB with his speed? Or does he run a 5.0 instead of a 4.65 like Rivals says?

No his speed is pretty accurate. I don't think he has anywhere near the coverage skills or the lateral speed a MLB needs in Monte's scheme. He's got more straight line speed and is definitely going to play DL.

I'd say he's 5'11 245-250lbs and that 40 time is about right. He benches 400lbs and his motor never quits. He's very underrated and Coach O loves the kid... that's all I need to know about him.

JC said himself that he's currently 6'0 - 271 lbs. He's all DT from the day he steps on campus. He's quick enough to be pushed out to DE in certain packages, but he's a DT through and through.

Yeah, and Tyler Bray was up to 210 reportedly a few weeks ago... UT weighed him in around 188.

Marlon Walls was supposed to have weighed 295lbs coming in last year and that was blown out of proportion, too.

I'll give Copeland 6'0 but there's no way he's up to 271 right now. At most he may be 255-260lbs. He may end up getting to 270 before summer camp but I just don't see it right now.

Copeland played in the GACA (Georgia) All Star game and did pretty good. He sacked UGA committ Hutson Mason in the end zone that caused a fumble and TD for the South.

There is noway to say he is or isn't a certain weight unless you personally know him. If he is truly only 6' tall, he may have trouble getting any leverage on big SEC-caliber OG's.

I thought it was easier to get leverage when you are smaller? Anyways I don't think his weight will be to big a factor with him playing DT b/c he is so explosive off the ball. Heck UTSports has Wes Brown listed as 257 pounds

It depends on what kind of leverage you are talking about. There is a reason there arent many (if any at all) 6'0" tall DT's in the NFL.

Let's not sell him short yet. I agree with you about height being a key factor, but he still might continue to grow. Big Dan was only listed a 6'1" when he came in as a freshman also. We'll see. I trust Coach O and Monte to put him where he will make the biggest impact

To me he looks every bit of 260-265. He may not be exactly 271 but he isn't very far off.

As far as height goes, O must not be too concerned about it considering John Brown is 6'1 at best. It may hurt them when the NFL Combine/Draft rolls around, but I don't think it will hurt them at the collegiate level.

Here's the thing guys, when it comes to height/weight... only measurements can prove anything. If you're short, you're gonna give yourself an extra inch or two if someone asks how tall you are.

When it comes to these recruiting services, 90% of the players they list have incorrect height and/or weight.

As far as me knowing how much Copeland weighs, no I don't know him personally. But my eye test says he's 5'11 (maybe even 5'10) and about 250lbs. If he says he's 6'0 271lbs I guess you can either believe that or not. I am just going from what I've seen on video and in person (summer camp). He weighed around 240lbs this summer and SAID himself he was under 6'0 tall. He said UGA wouldn't offer him due to his height.

So it's basically just whatever you decide to believe. Even when he gets to UT, alot of times they inflate players' height/weight too so it's hard to say how big players really are. That's why I like the NFL combines. They tell you legit size of every player.

This is J.C. 6 months ago at around 240lbs:

Dude, What are you thinking? The one who gets lowest usually wins. If this guy is as stout as has been posted his height will be a MAJOR advantage. If he is pound for pound stronger than whoever is in front of him and gets under their pads then he should win the battle against any lineman 6 foot whatever. End of story. Period. No debate. ..........We good?

His biggest strength is actually his quickness.

It's not all about leverage, it's about technique. You can get low on someone and than can spin right out of the block. It's not about being short or tall. John Henderson is 6'8. It comes down to your motor and your technique.

in meat market, O says the ideal size for a dt is 6'2 285, which is where copeland will likely end up...

being shorter gives DT a natural leverage advantage agaisnt taller O-lineman

he isn't saying he is that tall, he is saying he will probably be that tall

after watching michael taylor in the UA game, if this staff wants him and he is 5'9" ill take him (i realize no one is saying they wouldnt take him, just saying)...their ability to spot talent is second to none.
