I just can't see the staff taking 3 qbs with the number of guys we have left on scholarship and I don't think this staff would offer a guy as a ploy. might plan to use him at another position.... but the more likely scenario is that simms is either paying his own way or will be encouraged to look elsewhere if he accepts.

If Simms signed an LOI, he's on scholarship.

I certainly didn't expect us to sign 3 QBs. Either they just recently saw something in Nance that they really like, or they're willing to do anything to get Rogers.

Looks like Coach O popped a six pack of Red Bull this morning before he started handing out offers.

I don't think anyone is buying that. Our recruiting fanbase is pretty heady for the most part. Rogers is the target here.

He's already committed to Vanderbilt. He might actually stand a chance of playing there.

Scholarships are a premium and especially this year for this program. If he didn't stand a chance of becoming a not just good but GREAT QB at UT then he wouldn't have been offered with two guys already on campus.

Maybe they've taken a closer look and seen something that others have missed?

The coaches know what they're doing everyone...... If we take him then I'll welcome him, but I would bet quite a bit that if he decided to commit we would turn him down, that or slow play him where he wouldn't commit. I like to think the theory where CLK is trying to put CMR's attention to Rogers when we may put the full court press on others ala Smith, Stripling, Robey, ect..... After watching him from last year, that wouldn't surprise me one bit....

I'm beginning to agree that maybe it is just a ploy. I've found several articles where he states emphatically that he won't go anywhere except Vandy, even since UT has contacted him. Also, he went to every single Vandy home game this year on his own dime. I guess they figure there is little danger in him accepting the offer.

Nance doesn't have the arm to play at UT. He's a spread or gimmick offense QB with short passes. Think Hutson Mason.

It's possible, but these guys somehow found Chase Rettig. I doubt they'd have missed this guy from the state they consider so important.

I don't get how a ploy, knowing he's not going to take the offer, lures Rodgers. Only way I could see it helping is if they both agree amongst each other to commit to the Vols. Don't see us just offering Nance as much incentive, any way you slice it. Not saying this means the staff really wants the guy...I am just puzzled where they are going with this. Maybe his smarts and drive (to maintain a perfect 4.0) is rather intriguing to CLK...don't know.

I do recall once, CLK saying in an interview how important it was to find a QB that was very sharp. Maybe he's placing a premium on that instead of just raw talent, and perhaps thinks it wouldn't hurt to have one more option to turn to, in case he realizes sometime next year that he still needs to go out and find someone who can run this ship. Could be that he thinks the kid has the raw talent and intellect to be developed over time. Just taking a wild guess here.

Any chance this guy actually decides to take up the offer? I don't like the idea of just offering him to lure the other guy we want away.
