hmm... never heard of it... musta been worth it to go into the hood!In some sense, Brother Jack's was about as far from the strip as possible, where it could be argued that no sane or sober student would ever want to venture. It could best be described as in the heart of the project about a block or two from the Knoxville College campus. Seems like it was also where a couple of roads intersected. Jack was as nice as he could be, and the pig burgers and bbq was served on regular white loaf bread. Looking back, it was probably a fairly dangerous excursion, but think Krystal times 1000 when you have been out drinking and you'll get a flavor for the attraction. It could never be replicated. Trust me there were not a lot of people at UT that were aware it even existed IMO.
good point... as is The Torch..Gus Kampas is furious at the exclusion of The Varsity Inn from this discussion.
yep!!!! ivy's on lake used to have several video games too... I remember playing a lot of galaga there...Oops! Sorry Gus. And Stephanos on import beer night. The Strip rocked back in the day. I wish I had all the quarters I stuck into those old Electronic Wizard machines back in the day too.
I went into OCI for a burger and a beer 2 summers ago. The old timers on the strip are getting reamed these days. It's a tough business with 18-21 year old clientele except on game days. Still, a great place.
A lot of the old hangouts are gone. Last Lap, the Library, Ivy's, Quarters.
Chaney won't be coaching quarterbacks, but I am sure he will play a big part in developing them like he always has wherever he's been.
That's unfortunate. The guy talked about it like he had it last week. I must have confused it with the 12 other BBQ joints he told me about in the region.
What about some place down Sutherland? Can't remember the name.
