Oh well. This thread wasn't a total waste. It was fun thinking about the good old days with Brother Jacks, Tap Room, Roman Room (George), Backdoor Tavern, The Place, etc etc etc

where was brother jacks? a little before my time i guess... I hear that vic 'n bills used to be on the strip where ocharley's was back in the early 80's..

In some sense, Brother Jack's was about as far from the strip as possible, where it could be argued that no sane or sober student would ever want to venture. It could best be described as in the heart of the project about a block or two from the Knoxville College campus. Seems like it was also where a couple of roads intersected. Jack was as nice as he could be, and the pig burgers and bbq was served on regular white loaf bread. Looking back, it was probably a fairly dangerous excursion, but think Krystal times 1000 when you have been out drinking and you'll get a flavor for the attraction. It could never be replicated. Trust me there were not a lot of people at UT that were aware it even existed IMO.

Gus Kampas is furious at the exclusion of The Varsity Inn from this discussion.

A guy told me about this place the other day. I need to try it. He was huge, so I know he knows food.

The OCI is on the lower end of the strip next to the place where those two former players staged the "Pellet Gun Heist". OCI is a wonderful, nostalgic spot. Brother Jacks was over in North Knoxville. Those pig burgers were great as was that famous tune "It's Cheaper to Keep Her"!

So at 2154 est we still have no idea if ambles is in town or not. Noone can confirm this. oh well :bad::boredom::search:
