"I talked to Lane Kiffin tonight and told him I was ready to commit," Thompkins said of his decision. "He had a lot of good things to say about what he's seen from me on tape and what he thought I could do in their offense.

"He told me that he's looking for a big-play wide receiver that can come in and compete next year. I told him I'm the man for the job. I'm going to be wearing No. 1 too. That's my number and coach Kiffin told me it was mine when I got there."

Per Rivals... He will be here in January. They made him a priority after Chaney evaluated him in person on the bye week. They've already promised him the #1 jersey. That says alot...

GREAT talent I saw him play his SR year of highschool all I can say is shame on Meyer for not taking his commit back in the spring. He wanted to be close to home and gators were his choice but Meyer didnt want to use another scholly on a juco wr after Carl Moore try and fail. The kid is a great WR that had some issues in HS but what kid from metro dade doesn't but BIG time talent with speed and very physical off the line. Andre Johnson meets Micheal Irvin had more that 20 offers out of highschool many thought bama/ lsu were the teams to beat. IMO he's the best WR that yall have signed I know yall are loving Ambles and Milton but this kid will become UT number 1 WR next yr Great pick up. (kind of have a man crush on him...sorry)

It seems the days of UF taking their pick and leaving us with leftovers is officially over, though. What do you think?

They stripped Warren's #1 during practice at one point and made him wear an unnumbered jersey, IIRC...

If Thompkins is going to wear #1, he'll have to bring it every practice and stay out of trouble. These coaches don't give that number to just anybody.

Actually UF and Miami both passed on the kid. He had some serious legal issues in HS and it would be best if he got away from the bad crowd he used to hang with. He is a hell of an athlete and will be a good one as long as he stays out of trouble. Its probably for the best he ended up outside of the state of Florida so he can get in with a better crowd.

I hope that's true about UF. I love it when Vols show up with a chip on their shoulder towards UF.

Does anyone know about the brother situation? I keep seeing highlights of a Kendall Thompkins posted for Kenbrell Thompkins and I've read that he has a brother so I'm wondering if ppl are confusing the two...

Hoping this staff whips them into shape, because the receiving core could be scarrrry. i already like our receivers in teague, moore, jones.

I believe UT will end up with a Top 3 class if they can keep everyone and sign some OL plus Luc,C.Jones and couple of Dbs like dorsey,Wright, T-rex or Riley... which IMO will bring UT the number one class. Here's my problem with Fla when you have kids like Thompkins, Louis and Easley(ny/nj kid) that want to be gators and you hold off/slow play whatever then you gamble somehow it doesn't play out right you then begin to hurt your depth once the "5 star" kids decide to stay instate, dont want to compete for time or just want to play for another program. Its not a problem this year because past classes were loaded but when Bama, Uga and Lsu are recruiting well now you throw in the "dream team" staff that Kiffin has put together its not going to be a cake walk for us any longer..Hell USF has kids like T-Rex, Robey and Christian Green considering them. Gator fans don't want to admit this but I will....WE aint USCw meaning we can't get 95% of our targets. I'm a Gator but Kiffin and company are doing a HELL of a job in recruiting.

If all Gator fans had similar perception and ability to admit what is obvious then I would have a lot more respect for Gator nation.

Classy post. UF will always get their share of great players but it will be a lot more difficult in the near future. Too many programs in the area on the rise for any one team to dominate the recruiting....
