'10 LA QB Benton "Munchie" Legaux

Boyd is shorter and won't play next year. He's got a torn ACL.

I don't get the constant reminders about Boyd's injuries. Kiffin wasn't looking for a QB that could play this year. That's just inaccurate. He took Arthur Jeffrey when many other team's overlooked him because of his injury.

I would like to have a play maker at QB, be it this guy or whoever. But why did we pass on Boyd last year if we're looking at this guy this year? I don't understand.

Here we go again...

Anyway, here's my take on it.

1. Boyd = 6'1" (I think) Munchie = 6'4"
2. Boyd was looking at knee surgery
3. I could be wrong, but I don't think Boyd is the playmaker Munchie appears to be.
4. I believe Kiffin saw something in Boyd he didn' like. Maybe a mechanics thing or vision thing. This is just specualtion on my part though.

I know all the stuff about not taking Boyd, my take was we were going to look at guys that can stand in the pocket and deliver the football. Watching this guy's video, I didn't see much of it, alot of tuck and run. I'm not disappointed with not taking Boyd, just didn't think Kiffin wanted these types of QB's.

Pretty sure Jeffrey will be able to play this year. Didn't he have his surgery about a year before the season is gonna start?

And how is Boyd gonna be able to be ready by July? I really, really doubt that anyone is going to be the same only like 6 months after having ACL surgery.

Boyd had his knee cut on after signing day, so he is obviously confused if he thinks he will be back in July. I think one of the issues with Boyd was his father. Dad was captaining the ship and for what I understand telling the schools how it was going to go down, playing time and so on and so forth. You get the feeling that CLK sensed something was amiss with Boyd of the field because athletically he sure seems to fit the bill.

Kiffin is not going to take direction from a player or a family member where Fulmer was an appeaser. Tell them anything to get them here. That is not the case with this staff. Kiffin has a plan and certain people and attitudes fit that plan and certain people and attitudes do not.

I'm just tellin ya what the kid told ESPN. I have no clue...

Clemson thinks he'll be ready as well. He played on the knee so it couldn't have been a complete tear that required reconstruction. 6 months recovery sounds about right for a partial tear. Regardless, the injury had nothing at all to do with Kiffin telling him he doesn't fit the offense he wants to run. Either way you are still sitting with Jon Crompton starting this year. Boyd could have taken a redshirt. If it was Matt Barkley that was committed to the Vols and needed knee surgery, do you think Kiffin tells him to go elsewhere just because he wouldn't be able to help this year???

That's what gets me about people constantly talking about the injury. It doesn't make sense. It may make you feel better about the situation to say that, but it's just not true.

I'm just saying that was part of it. It may not be the main thing, but I'm sure that was in his head.

But the height, arm, ..etc were all a part of it too.

I don't think it had anything at all to do with it. Like I said, we are still down to Crompton and Stephens at this point either way. It certainly wasn't enough to keep other schools from recruiting him.

I look at it as all the QBs Kiffin wanted were taken. He wasn't planning on having a QB this class, and if he kept Boyd/Petty, it'd have been a waste of a scholarship having this red-shirt making sure the clip-board was at eye-level for Heaps/Scroggins.

Keep in mind Reaves already had close ties with Heaps, and Kiffin didn't leave his West Coast connections behind or anything.

If we land this guy, I'm going over and starting a thread on Tiger Dung titled "Gaux Vols."

Quarterbacks
The top player at quarterback was clearly Munchie Legaux of Edna Karr. There were some questions about him coming into this combine about his ability to stick at quarterback on the college level, but he answered everyone of them.

Legaux made all the throws – from the three step drop to the seven step drop to the quick slant to the fly route. He showed touch, arm strength, nice footwork, and he threw a nice spiral. He is thin and will need to add weight to compete on the next level, but he showed on Sunday that his future position is going to be under center. He was outstanding all afternoon when he knew a lot of eyes were on him.

Other quarterbacks that had their moments were Dylan Favre, Preston Messer, and Renaldo Thomas. Favre threw the ball with very good accuracy, Messer displayed, great arm strength

While he is still waiting on an offer from the home-state Tigers, another Southeastern Conference team entered the mix this past week.

“Tennessee just offered me, and that is my latest,” he said. “The coaches said that I am the type of quarterback they are looking for, and they need one in this class.

Per Scout...

I agree and have seen Hendrix play in person. From what I have talked to Hendrix, he is basically all but a commit to us unless we completely avoid him.
