Was thinking about this... how many good OL do you want on a team, or rather how many do you take in one class? I'm guessing you want 10 SEC caliber lineman on your roster at a given time, but the thing is it's not like LB, CBs, RBs or WRs who can all play special teams for you. OL can really only play OL
we needed 7 offensive lineman in this class and that is 7 that have really great potential to play at SEC level. Doubt we have 4 SEC level lineman on roster at current time.
You have to have a lot of offensive lineman because 40% will not complete their eligibilty based on history. They get dismissed, transfer, quit, or end up injured and don't finish. So that is almost half of every class that won't turn out.
Then you have some that stay and graduate but never are a factor.
We are about 3 really good OL classes away from being competitive in the offensive line.
I won't even talk about lack of DTs

Larry, what is your take on why we are so deficient in these two areas? The problem started with fulmer, continued with the last regime, and is still there. I don't understand why we are having a hard time attracting quality guys... the opportunity to play early is certainly there.
Kiffin certainly was on track to snatch a quality class so I think two things. One impacts longer term and the other certainly impacted shorter term
1. Not enough in state talent so we have to go outside state. distance and home state schools become issues in that scenario.
2. Dooley has done an outstanding job recruiting, better than Kiffin did last year IMO. But, by the time he got here most of the higher level lineman were either locked in or we lsot due to relationships. Not enough to foster those and pull class this year.
# one has impacted UT last several years. Especially with how good the conference has gotten over all both in recruiting and coaching.
I think those are the main problems
