'10 NC CB Victor Hampton

Didn't they mention in Meat Market that when a kid changes high schools his senior year it generally occurs because of grade issues and they are trying to sneak around it? May not be the case, I'm just throwing it out there.

I don't think it has to completely do with his off-field problems. I think it is a combination of things...

1. He really, really struggled in front of our coaches at FNL. There were about 4 or 5 other CB's that were better at that event alone.

2. He does have some off-field problems.

3. His grades need some serious work.

Sounds like a winner to me.

Yeah, our coaches haven't bothered keeping in contact since FNL. I feel bad for the kid because he said that he even apologized to the UF coaches for the way he performed. I think he would still be a Gator if he wasn't an academic/character risk. He would also still be a Gator if he had more talent. But combine the 2 things up and UF decided it wasn't worth it.

I don't know what DB's we end up with but I don't think there will be a lot. We don't have a ton of room left and I don't expect but one or two at the most to be CB's. We are after Shaw and Riley from Cali. If we get those two we are more than likely done at DB. The only way I see taking two is if they are both elite level kids. We need the room for other positions.

I think they want at least 1 CB in this class. They definitely want a safety or 2 in this class. Riley is the #1 DB on the board.

I'm not sure how high they have Hampton on their CB board.

So as Vols fans, do you guys still want this kid if it is in fact true that UF dropped his commitment?

Right now, I would pass on him. There are probably 5 or 6 CBs who are higher than him on UT's board. And with our depth already at DB, I think we can be a little more selective on who we take...

Hampton has been told he won't be part of the class. Partly because of his being kicked out of school but also because he was unimpressive at FNL (his first trip to UF as well).

Scout already has him off the list.

What class? Florida's class?

Victor Hampton, who now attends Darlington, S.C. after leaving Independence (Charlotte, N.C.), is no longer committed to the Gators, ESPN's JC Shurburtt.

Tennessee and South Carolina are believed to be the primary schools now in the mix for the 5-foot-10, 167-pound talent.

It seems Hampton and his mother enjoyed Victor's second unofficial to Knoxville despite the result.

His mother told James Bryant:

I thought we should have won the ballgame, it was an electric crowd.

Notice that she said "we" and not they.

Apparently Urban doesn't have the nerve to tell Hampton, that his commitment is no longer valid and he just wants to ignore him till he goes away.

normally I only post 1-2 sentences, but this seemed like something worth noting:

The bigger picture, being here in South Carolina, all I know is it's been a great move for me. My grades are better than ever. I'm learning things I never knew because I have a great role model now. Chevron Scott has been there for me. It's not just about football for me now. He's showing me how to be a man and grow up.

he enjoyed his time in Knoxville and sounds to be getting his stuff together. I'm unsure if they have room for Hampton if they got a guy like Wright or Shaw. So many of these guys are interchangeable at S/CB, but Hampton seems to be more of a pure corner from the reports I've seen.

Tennessee has decided to go after former Florida cornerback commitment Victor Hampton, who's now at Darlington (S.C.) High. That means this should be a good two-team battle between the Vols and South Carolina, with Tennessee holding the slight edge. Hampton was at South Carolina's win over Ole Miss and has visited Tennessee twice.
