Didn't Notre Dame's most recent championship come in 1988? Just curious.

I just don't understand why anyone would want to go to ND and play for Weis..

I mean.. I understand Notre Dame.. Tradition.. but while Weis is there...

Brady Quinn (Ty Willingham version) - not going to get drafted.

Trust me, if ND faulters greatly this year, Weis will most likely be gone.

Yup. Not trying to start a fire or anything, but you just fired the coach that won you your most recent NC. Congratulations, you're right where ND was in 2005.

I wasn't talking crap about the school.. I just don't see the lure of the school.. I understand we went through a similiar thing but most beleive we have corrected our course... I guess it's because I wear orange tinted glasses but i've never seen the appeal of Notre Dame besides a religious stand point..

I agree, I do not see what the big deal is. I am Irish and Catholic and I cannot stand that school.

Fair enough. The religion and tradition will always be there.

Lou Holtz made it a national power, Bob Davie and Ty Willie destroyed it all. Charlie is try to get back to wear Lou was.

Again.. not trying to argue.. But didn't Wies take willingham's players to a BCS bowl.. and he hasn't done much since with his?

Just an outside observation..

We have a great tradition down here also. It includes what we like to call The Miracle at South Bend...........

And Ty won with Davie's players ... Ty used smoke and mirrors his first year and was a terrible coach and recruiter (which was a big reason for the terrible 07 season), the mediocre 08 season was fully on Chucky. He's got this year to right the ship. Charlie took the team to 2 straight BCS bowls, both losses, but he still got them there.

Re: The Miracle at South Bend
Definitely a painful memory. Didn't ND hit a UT player in the butt on a last minute field goal?!

Shembo should be picking the Irish tomorrow.

Not true. Notre Dame has been going through coaches left and right since Lou Holtz. We're on our 3rd coach in over 30 years. Plus, it'd been almost 20 years since ND's national championship when Weis was hired. We won one 10 years ago.:hi:

Lou Holtz made it a national power.

If Lou Holtz made it a national power, what the hell were they for the rest of the 1900's? I'm pretty sure their position was pretty well established before Dr. Lou and his magic tricks showed up.

Sorry, I meant, Lou built the program into a national power after Faust left it in shambles. I don't remember much of what happened before the 1980's without reading about it. :)

Not quite "left and right", but I agree with your point, Bam.

Wish I had one. Emails and posts on GoldHelmet are all I've got right now.

Pete Sampson, IrishIllustrated.com Editor, has an article basically calling ND the "runaway favorite".

EDIT: That may have been premium info.

Committing tommorrow per the coaches, the coaches don't feel so good about it.

We have Irvin, Askew, Donald are a nice core going forward not to mention King and others. I agree we could really use one more big time LB commit. I am confident this staff will find that guy. I think this staff must be dedicating lots of time to the OL recruits. We need two more in this class that are big time not projects like Pair. I am excited about Robinson and then Stone. I actually think we get Robinson and not Stone.

Yeah, win some lose some. But LBer is not one of our biggest needs. No need to worry. We can be very selective on who we want as a LB.
