'10 OH QB Andrew Hendrix

He's thinking the same thing as he is now, he wouldn't have worked here.

Thanks, coach Kiffin.

I jest, but the fact is that you have no idea what Kiffin is thinking. It's entirely possible that we tried to get back in on Boyd after Kiffin got some help and looked at him further including his performance in the UAAA game, but Boyd was no longer interested. But you have no idea what he's thinking. Boyd fit this offense better than Brunetti and we verbally offered him.

I still say the knee injury had more to do with it then ppl think.

They way things were explained to me is that when those guys came on their official visits, they had every measurable measured that the coaches could measure. The same thing that happened to Boyd happened to Thigpen, they just didn't meet the specifications really.

We didn't try to get back on him, because we were already over him. That was a rumor started by Boyd's dad after the AA game.

No. It did not come from his dad. That was a rumor started by someone trying to come up with some sort of explanation for the comments.

IIRC, there was a local paper around where Boyd is from where Boyd's father trashes our coaching staff for telling his son that he didn't fit. I will look for it...

It was his HS coach that did....

In fact, new Tennessee head coach Lane Kiffin told Boyd that he wasn’t right for their offense. Has coach Kiffin changed his tune since the impressive All-America game performance?
“I think coach Kiffin may have called my coach or something,” Boyd said. “I haven’t talked to him. I think I may have opened a lot of eyes during the Army All-America game, but I’m not looking at Tennessee.
“I don’t want to bad mouth any program, but I think coach Kiffin should have waited to see me play before saying I didn’t fit his system,” he said. “But I wish them the best. I’m sure they’ll find the right quarterback for them.”

Kiffin never called him by all accounts and this was something made up by his HS coach.

What does that have to do with anything? I would like to read it, but that and this situation are not related. Tajh heard from his coaches that Kiffin had called. He flat out told them he was no longer interested in Tennessee. There was obviously no follow up call.

shut down COMPLETELY by "the white boys" at Montgomery Bell Academy in Cincinnati this past year. Didn't look good at all for anyone who may have been upset about the ND commitment.

I know Boyd looked pretty good in the AA game and I think this staff does wish they would have kept the kid. They didn't think Coleman was leaving. If they would have known that I would think Boyd would be wearing orange. Real orange anyway.

Our #'s are scary. I don't think for a second Lamaison is better QB than Boyd. Come on. One offer and from podunk U or whoever. Lamaison isn't the answer. He is being compared to Kraft kid who went to UCLA and has now transferred. You know the one who threw like 4 interceptions in the first half in last years UCLA game. Same school.

We have to get some QB's in here. I am sure we will. But not taking Boyd was a mistake.

Our staff likes Lamaison, that should be all that matters. I don't believe they just went blindly with an offer for him and didn't watch tape to see how he could be utilized in their system.

Isn't Boyd gonna be out all season with an injury?

He should not play no. He will be able to but not 100 percent. I doubt he plays but he is determine to blow out his knee again according to all quotes. He played on it hurt last year and basically hid it for while. He is just not that bright if you ask me. But he will be healthy enough to do non contact drills and condition. He should not be cutting on it, taking hits to it, or maxing out on it until midway through there season at least. IMO

He claims he will be ready to go.

I agree. I think Kiffin already regrets taking Boyd. It was certainly a mistake. Not the only one they've made in QB recruiting either. They have gone about it the wrong way IMO. Vacating the roster doesn't have as big an effect on QBs as Kiffin surmised. There are more important factors than a lack of competition.

Completely disagree re: Boyd. Kiffin would get rid of Boyd every time and twice on Tuesdays. He is just not a guy who is going to fully crasp or play well in a pro-style. IMO

As far as other mistakes. Sure 20/20 is always good but they have done very well with what they have. Getting Rettig or Scroggins is solid in this class. Sims, Heaps, Bell are all about on same level with these guys. There is only small bits of separation. IMO I cannot say that mortal men could have done better.

I think Hendrix will end up being a good player for ND.

I could be dead wrong but I dont. I think he will be very average and may never start for them.

I saw him about 4-5 times last year and he was average at best everytime I saw him. He had one good game and the other 3 he was honestly average to below average.

He was horrible against Elder and the Tennessee (Nasvhille area) team they played last year.

The best QB prospect in Cincinnati this year is hands down Luke Massa at St Xavier. If he hadn't been injured and missed most of last year he would be a big-time elite QB prospect. He led St X to a 15-0 record and Division 1 state championship as a sophomore. Legit 6'5 QB with tremendous accuracy and potential.

This is all just my opinion of course. I know there are some other Cincinnati area and Ohio posters on here. I would like to see what they think.

Boyd was damn sure a much better pro style guy than Lamaison or half of the guys we're recruiting now. Kiffin didn't take Boyd because he never got to go through the process with him. It wasn't his guy.

If Kiffin doesn't regret the decision then I have concerns. You have to be able to recognize and admit your mistakes especially as a young coach in order to grow from it and not repeat them. Boyd is better than anybody we are pursuing now outside of Scroggins. He would have worked in this offense. You can't just throw away a guy that wants to come here with that kind of talent. Boyd is going to have a good career and it won't be here, but even if he didn't I would still say Kiffin made a mistake in not taking Boyd.

Like you said, hindsight is 20/20 and I think it really hurt not having another guy or two on staff that could offer opinions on Boyd. Kiffin missed on that one. I am fully able to recognize his failures and his successes equally. Seems that few out here are.

I mean we can go back and forth but no Boyd is not a pro-style guy. He is not a student. He is an athlete. Scroggins is a student, Sims a student, Rettig a student. I do not know the guy no but in todays world with all the interviews and quotes and the fact he made an 18 on his ACT (That is basically illiterate). Boyd is a spread QB period. He was Clawson's type of QB.

This responds to you as well Sab. Kiffin has no regrets and nor should he on letting Boyd go. I cannot understand why you think Boyd would help at all. He would never beat out Stephens or Lamaison in a pro-style.

at least he would have been a serviceable backup. he probably would have never been the guy to take us to the promised land, but i believe that if CLK would have known how QB recruiting would turn out for 2010, he wouldnt have let him go.

CLK and Orgeron are very confident, deservedly so, and they had to of felt that they would get the top guy in this class. all of us on VN sure thought we would
