'10 SC DT Kelcy Quarles

Well stated from both sides of the argument. Grandparents included..

Thanks. I have seen it happen throughout my career in athletics and it has bothered me.

I see what you are getting at with the Grandparent thing, but based on some things I was told, I think that situation is a little different, and in the end, the kid made the decision.

Not really a need to discuss further publicly, and not in the Quarles thread. But hopefully he'll be "allowed" to be a Vol since it has seemed all along that that is what he (the one going to be the student-athlete) wants.

Would be huge to land this kid but honestly I don't see him defying his dad. Hopefully the staff can get through to this kid and let him know it's time to be his own man and quit letting his father live vicariously through him.

If he comes on the official it'll be more about selling his dad about the program than Kelcy himself.

I hope we just get him on the official and Monte can show Kelcy's father that this football program is very professional

Let me know if Lattimore makes a UT push. I'm putting you in charge of informing me of any news in that thread. Although there won't be any:good!:

Kelcy would be a huge get, solid replacement for Willis. I like that Corey has been on him. I'm really liking CM. Hopefully the father allows Kelcy to be what he wants.

I ignored that thread, my friend. Too much crap and not enough info. Kelcy would be a huge get and, with his athleticism, could be a big contributor from day 1

Taking the advice of the wise, I see..

Per Rivals... That last paragraph says it all. Kelcy is a Vol, his dad is a Cock. It sounds like he is realy visiting this time. If I was USCjr., I would be VERY worried...

Brings new meaning to being cock-blocked.

That't sounds good but I'm going to take the I believe it when I see it stance.

Would love to get this kid, if for nothing else than to keep our foot on the throat of the Cocks. The state of SC has some real big time prospects in this class and particularly in 2011 so their seeing KQ choosing the Vols would be a great jump start.

Any news or updates on his visit? Is it gonna happen?

Who wins with this kid? Him or his family. It is not his family's life to live. Selfish if you ask me for his family to unduly pressure him on a life decision for their feelings not his. http://tennessee.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1035973

You say that but if the shoe was on the other foot and your child was thinking of playing for FL or UT, what would you be doing...pushing your child to be a gator (I think not)

When they are 18 years old you give them your blessing to go do what is best for their life( it is their life) and what will get them further along in life. If they are going to study marine biology would you want them to go Nebraska. If his major is going to be something just to keep him in sports and his goal is pro sports, you encourage him to go where he will get the best education at that. CO CMK

If I have missed a report about the decision being based on academic offerings, I am sorry. I have seen qualified reports that say he was ready to commit when he was on campus, but his family wanted for him to not, then he reiterates that in interviews this week. Family keeps pressuring him to stay in SC. To me seems to be an umbilical cord issue. I know medical conditions and other factors come into play, but there is not that much of a difference in distance. Also, if my child felt more drawn to one program or another, then that is his choice. I am not going to press my fan favoritism on him. Guess I raise mine to be independent and self sufficient, not living someone else's life...live their own. (All this is just to clarify my earlier comments). Its a shame family pokes their noses in sometimes.

I agree. He has wanted to make the trip several times, still does. He has interest. That interest may not be as high as we Vol fans would want, it may be. We have ex NFL coaches for his position and probably the program of study he wants. If his family keeps on him though I believe in the end he will stay at UScjr. I just know that I had to let my child go and make the best they could with all the support I could help with. Not what I wanted but what she needed for her future.
