'10 TN WR Jerry Anderson

Low risk, High reward. Need I say more ?
Unless he really knocked their (CLK and staff) socks off at camp, I think they wait to see how he does this season, before offering him.

We are limited to only 28 schollies/yr so I'd rather our staff not stick their neck out, hoping he works out...not when they can use that scholarship on someone like a Jeff Luc or Prater.

that tight end idea might not be to bad. in that film dude didn't like a D1 wr. but i would offer if that would get scroggins to commit

He seems like he isn't scared to get hit. He seems to have pretty good hands. 6'5 he would be a threat in the end zone. Another big time receiver and we are in buisness.

Go Vols!

Yeah, i noticed he has really good hands. He would be perfect for "orange zone" situations.

Kiffin has turned two reicevers with about the same ability into stars. i think he would be a perfect fit for Kiffin's system. Jarret and Williams is what came to mind when i saw his tape.

The same ability? Williams was a star basketball player and a 4* football recruit who actually had major offers. Dwayne Jarrett was a top 50 player who's now in the NFL.

You can't even really compare that to a kid with no offers who isn't even a great player by HS standards.

Basically the only way this guy gets an offer is if it decides on if we get Scroggins or not. Otherwise this kid doesn't even get a look.

You gotta realize about this kid too....it isnt like he has an even descent QB throwing to him, and he isnt in a "pass heavy" high school offense. If he showed enough in the camp CLK and staff will offer him.....I am not sure if they are into the whole "offer a family member to get the other one that is actually talented" type of thing, considering they said they dont want to take recruits who dont have the natural potential to be at least free agents into the League. However, if the kid has hands, at 6'5", he could definitely be worth the scholly on 3rd and 5's and in the redzone. If he is good enough for Cutcliffe to offer, there HAS to be something there.

They will if it actually depends on it. Orgeron did it at Ole Miss and even explained it in Meat Market. It was called the calf and cow deal or something. He offered Joe McKnights best friend and a couple teammates to try to get in good with him. It ended up not working though as we all know.

But if we find out that Scroggins will come without him, and this was just an attempt to get his cousin some offers, I doubt he'll get one.

And the thing about Cutcliffe now though is the fact that he's at Duke. He can't get top players anymore and he knows that. Plus, while he's an amazing QB coach, is he one of the best at evaluating WRs?

I just meant Williams not so fresh knowledge of basketball.. He had only been playing for like 5 years...

I understand he doesnt get a look without Scroggins..

But i'm saying.. If we do in fact take him.. maybe he wouldn't be a complete waste and contribute a little after Ausmus and Chaney get a hold of him..

Just a thought

You make excellent points, man. I guess just his physical size intrigues me....and I would hate to judge a WR at a nowhere program like this until I see some film and see if he has a QB that can even get him the ball. Hopefully he has a great SR year, blows up, and we have the inside track on him.

Oh no, this was towards the guy who said that he had the same ability as Mike Williams and Dwayne Jarrett.

I could see him as a project like Brian though. I just don't think that we'd settle for a project that large any other way though.

That would all be good.

The only major concern I have though is the fact he only had 16 catches. 90% of the time, the kids who are actually good to great players end up carrying their team. They don't end up at WR with only 16 catches on the year.

Physically though, he looks pretty great. Maybe he just can't put it together on the field or in his head though? Who knows. Maybe he'll break out with 50 catches or get moved to QB or something for his team this year.

Yep, that would be nice. So often a lot of these WR's get to a college program and break out, because they FINALLY have a QB that can get the ball to them before the DB can break on it. Ill be following this kid this year and rooting for him to EARN a UT offer on the field.

Mike Williams was a guy every one wanted for line backer or tight end. I'm saying he is that type of athlete. He needs to bulk up and work on his ball skills but has that ability to be that kind of player.

If we didn't have to offer Janzen's dad, we could be in a good position for Scroggins, with or without Anderson. That being said, I wouldn't mind having a kid from Memphis come to UT. The last big one from Memphis was Chris Walker, and that's turning out well

If he can jump, catch and has soft hands theres a place on the UT roster for him. with the average DB in the league being 5'9 (?) I think itll work out.

even if he dosent work out, and got demoted to say the vol squad, some would say scroggins is important enough for 2 scholarships ?

But the thing is that Mike Williams was a freak athlete for his size, and was actually wanted by other schools.

Anderson by all accounts isn't wanted by basically anyone.

I wonder if we would offer the kid just to get Jesse on board.

This kid does not seem to be one of those game breakers. He might be a good end zone target or a guy that gets the possessions. Not going to see a lot of yards after the catch with this guy.

I know CLK isn't Majors but... Heath got Benji a scholarship to UT. It depends on whether they think it is worth it. Of course this kid at his size could develop into a pretty good talent.

Benji was a good WR in HS but I doubt he'd have gotten UT's attention without Heath.

I think Scroggins would understand if we were reluctant to offer a guy that had less than 20 catches last year. I'd tell him we'll keep an eye on him and maybe offer after watching some of his senior season.

One has to wonder what type of offense that school runs though. They may not pass it much, which would make it hard to make a real determination on this guy. Something tells me that during the next evaluation period that we do.

Even after the first-hand evaluation in camp?
