'10 TX OG Dalvin Glass

You can never have enough lineman, we've been burned in the last 2 classes by not getting enough of them. I'm happy the young man is as excited as he seems to be by a UT offer, I hope that he does show up. I don't care whether he plays OL or DL, we can use either.

i want this kid. He says he called Tennessee everyday in Decemeber trying to get an offer/official visit. These are the types of players we need at UT, players that want to play for that power T. Surem he's only a 3 star, but his heart appears to be a 5 star.

GO VOLS!

Agreed. He kept Tennessee in his final two even with the previous staff, specifically that d bag willie mack garza, ignoring him. Plus he's freaking huge.

I will be surprised if Glass doesn't commit this weekend. You can tell he is really excited about his visit and has been interested in UT for a long time. He has also been very patient.

We SO need kids like this. Driven to be Orange. I love how WMG didn't have the time for him...when we're in dire need of O linemen. I'm glad he's hung with us through this and is still interested in being a V O L!

"Yes sir," he said. "I think I might just commit while I'm in town."

- Dalvin Glass (talking about his upcoming OV to UT) on Rivals

It's down to UT and Oklahoma State. UT is considered a heavy favorite. He projects at OG which is a huge need to fill.

If that's true... and he applies that kind of tenacity to the S&C program, development, and scholarship... WOW- give me a whole class of 3* players like him.

This class isn't heavy with OG talent, and we are low on depth there... so Glass would not only fill a need, but he's at least one of the top 15 OG's available.

I'm one of the people who believe star ratings do matter. They aren't 100% accurate but they do give you an idea of a recruits abilities and potential. The only thing star ratings aren't good at is evaluating a player's ceiling. While a guy like Jeff Luc may be playing about as well as he can play as a senior in high school, you can get a guy like Michael Taylor who will actually end up being a better NFL prospect because there's more room for development.

But overall, star ratings do work. Just look at basketball recruiting. A 5* basketball recruit is almost a lock to be a good player. It's a little harder to evaluate in football because there's no such thing as pick-up games in football and most of the evaluations are based off highlight tapes and camps.

Position of need, yes.

We need this guy, and a NT for depth. Then next year, hit both lines hard for the future.

I'm very intrigued by the athleticism.

I'm appalled by the technique.

I'm confident that a year from now, if he comes to UT, we'll be talking about how much improved he is and how he would look to be a three-year starter.

Out of curiosity, what problems do you see with his technique?

Watching a little bit of video, here's what stood out most to me.

- Standing almost straight up as soon as the ball is snapped
- Upon making contact, tends to lurch upward (putting him off balance)
- Hands too far outside too often

The first one is an enormous red flag if we were talking about someone who is slow or unathletic. For one thing, it shortens his strides when trying to get out into space, which means that he's not able to execute a kick-out. It also puts him in the way of the ballcarrier more often than I'd like to see.

Short strides may work well in close quarters, but unless a defensive lineman is so undisciplined as to also stand up after the ball is snapped, it puts the OL in a poor position since he's now forsaken his leverage.

That's why I'd look at him as a little bit of a project player. Bring him in, really work on the technique, and see what happens when you combine excellent athleticism with good technique.
