after reading Heaps comments about being a UW fan his entire life and really believing that sark will turb it around, i think he'll end up there unfortunately.
Washington has the least to offer either prospect. Being close to home isn't going to be enough...ala, Patrick Turner.Someone on the radio this afternoon suggested that Heaps is a silent to UW and that Sark is trying to pull Scroggins also. Are we in trouble with Scroggins because of the attention that we have shown Heaps?
With all due respect, Washington is no Georgia. UGA had big name QB's onboard. We had...uh....we had...Crompton.My worries too.
And his BYU comments were about as positive as his UT comments too. Feels like Marlon Brown and Orson Charles all over again...getting our hopes up, then getting let down :banghead2:
BYU -- "I really love what Coach Mendenhall has done there. They're one of the winningest programs in the country--only seven schools have won more games than them the past four years. I just love the environment there, the offense is great, and obviously it is a school of my faith (Mormon), so that is a positive."
Cal -- "I love coach Tedford. They have a great balance to their offense, kind of a new kind of look to it. There's a little spread, and a little pro style, and you can get a great education at Cal-Berkeley."
LSU -- "LSU is a big-time SEC program, and has really been on the up this past couple of years. Coach Miles is a fantastic coach, and even though they had a down year last year, they did have a freshman QB playing. Now he has experience and that will be a positive for them. Coach (Gary) Crowton is a great offensive mind."
Tennessee -- "Just the whole environment there is amazing. You think you know what SEC football is like, and it's even more unbelievable being there. The fans are really passionate, and they've really put together an all-star staff. When I took my visit, I couldn't believe I was looking across the table at Monte Kiffin, he's such a legend in what he does. They have a pro-style offense that's very USC suited, and it can get you ready for the next level."
Washington -- "They have great coaches, and they really know their stuff. It's my hometown school. I've grown up loving to watch them play. I've been a Husky fan all my life. They've had a few down types of years, but I have a really good feeling about the coaching staff, that they'll be able to turn the place around."

I personally think Scroggins will be wearing UT orange and Heaps won't be swayed by another good QB signing. You simply CANNOT expect to play for an SECC/ National Championship contender without significant competition. It is a pipe dream to imagine otherwise.
What is the X factor here with Heaps is whether choosing a Univ. that is centered on his faith trumps playing big time football in the SEC.
That's the one thing we have to credit the Gators and LSU tiggers for...they have helped our recruiting immensely by bringing home the NC, what 4 out of the past 5yrs. It has helped our program fiscally, because of SEC revenue sharing and new uber-lucrative TV contracts. That's partly why we were able to afford paying Orgeron and Monte unprecedented assistant coach money, not to mention attracting 2 other NFL assistant coaches to make the jump to college.
That prestige and national exposure is doing A LOT of recruiting for us...and why I feel good about getting both Heaps and Scroggins. It's a repeat of the Ainge-Schaeffer tag team action a few years ago.
I for one, have no problem with that. I just hope that we can get recruit Newton as an "athlete" (plugin him in where he can best contribute and has potential at the next level) as well. Let him compete for the starting spot, and even if he wins outright, the other guys will have a minimum of 2yrs if they don't redshirt.
Newton may be more valuable as a Big Money WR/TE. 6'6" guys with 4.5 speed is in short supply in college and the NFL
I dont see how you can read this and not feel like he is a heavy Vols lean right now
Says who? Both have UT at the top of their list, and neither would scare the other off...especially since they don't have a "Heap" of competition currently on the roster. We aren't getting Heaps and Scroggins...
Just send out positive mojo that we are lucky enough to get one of them.

No reason to think we don't get both, but plenty of reason to believe we do. UT is heads and shoulders above the competition for both prospects.
Do you think he'll make an emotional decision, Eric?
