'11 DE OL Trip Thurman

Florida runs a completely different system than what we run. He's probly more suited for a spread offense.

So Florida, who beats us every year, signs a guy that our coaches "didn't like what they saw"..... hmmmm....

"During his tenure at Illinois, Hiestand tutored 12 all-Big Ten selections on the offensive line. Every senior starting offensive linemen in Hiestand's first seven years with the Illini was signed to an NFL contract."

Buy'em books and send'em to school and they still wont learn a foo kin thing

Spread O linemen, I am guessing, need a different skill set than what we will run. I trust the guy with elite experience over any of our opinions

Cogent point - we'd be better served to wait and see who UF offers each year, then go after each one of them. It's a shame that we hired all these position coaches who actually know what they're doing. Seems like such a waste, eh?

Noticed on Rivals where Thurman was ranked as 11th overall Guard and C. Robinson was 14th. Didn't realize how little separation there was between the two.

Still hope UT gets Walsh.

I'm surprised Dooley didn't pursue him harder. How many 6'6 300 pounders are out there? Although, UT is in it for a lot more OLmen than UF is but this one surprised me.

meh. Jordan and Thurman were the ones I expected as we've led for some time. who the next OL we get to fill the impending departures of 4 senior starters is the big question mark to me now because I'm not aware of us leading for any of the significant guys out there.

I think he meant that he was surprised at UT's lack of interest in Thurman, not that Thurman committed to the gators.

Regardless, if there is any concern of a possible commitment flip back to Tennessee down the stretch, there doesn't seem to be much indication on the part of Thurman that there is even a slight possibility that could happen.

"Knowing the situation that happened up at Tennessee, I think I can develop a strong hatred of that program," he said with a laugh.

(Gator) Tails from the Trail: Trip Thurman talks Florida commitment...

Can't wait for Pat Martin to meet this cat across the middle. :)

Is this the same kid that claimed to be a huge Vol fan? I guess that "love" was just infatuation all along...because I can't really see a Vol fan HATING us even if what went down, went down. Bitterness can be a bit*h!

Maybe you missed the OW game where the UT staff punk'd Trip. I can't blame his shift in attitude toward UT after that happened.

IIRC, I don't think it was all the staffs fault. I think some of the blame should rest on the recruit as well for not letting the appropriate staff know that he would be visiting.

Exactly. We were so far behind the 8-ball at that point in recruiting, and the fact that very little communication had happened between he and the staff at that point, that the situation cannot be blamed on the coaches. Obviously, the situation hasn't happened again, so that let's me know that Thurman was probably an anomaly.

Funny, because I recall you saying that we didn't want him and that's why no one knew who he was.

The coaches evaluated him in the spring. He never recieved a offer from UT. If the coaches wanted him I think they could have made up for the embarrassment from what happened at the O & W game. I think UT had other OL on our board ranked higher than him. So no we did not want him.

During that eval, they asked him if he thought it was alright for a man to cry on national t.v. after a lose. His reply was "Yes, I think it is O.K."

Needless to say, the staff, wanting whats best for all the recruits, directed him in the right direction.
