'11 FL LB Gionni Paul

Askew is in the middle, all right -- in the middle of the bench and he has shown no desire to do anything else. Sad, really, because he has the ability to contribute.

Isn't he just a RS frosh? I know it is disappointing he hasn't been able to get on the field, but I don't understand everyone giving up on him yet.

Plus we should get King back into the lineup as long as he is healthy. I must be in the minority in thinking that LB is one of the positions that will get much better with the players we already have on the roster.

Problem as in ... a problem to deal with on the field.

sometimes I speak in coloquialisms and I need to recognize my VN audience is a li'l different, so I apologize. :hi: :)

Stewart, Turene , Perryman & Lewis are probably the only Fla LBs I'd take over Paul...

He brings it.

Jay are you referring to Keith? If so, that's one guy I wish we really would've gotten in on. Perfect OLB size already and then threw in a S&C program and you've got a hell of an OLB.

That is big. They will NOT be disappointed.

You are right. LB does seem to be a hard position to project. I wonder if anyone on here knows what our successful LB's were rated coming out of high school? I believe Mayo was a 4star. What about Kevin Burnett and Kevin Simon? I don't remember but I think they were pretty highly ranked coming out of high school

Simon was the #1 MLB IIRC. Knees did not allow him to do much.

Burnett was pretty high too.

Actually Simon was a five star and Burnett was (unless this is a misprint) a 1 star. Some fodder for the star haters. In 2001, Kevin Simon and Jabari Davis were two fo the top recruits in the country. A very disappointing pair in my view. If you watched closely you would have seen that of the two Kevins, Burnett was far the superior. Simon was an average SEC linebacker, and Davis, IMO, a below average running back. He did, however, have one great game against the Gators.

Burnett was a 4* 5.8 out of Cali. He chose Tennessee over Colorado in a very heated recruiting battle. He had offers from just about all the major programs in the country.

Correct. Mayo was a 4* 5.8 out of Virginia.

His name cracks me up. I've always been an Andy Griffith show devotee -- and Opey's friend that always got him in trouble was named Johnny Paul Jason.

I agree with you that it is too early to give up on Askew -- he can turn it around if he can just get his head straight. He has all the ability to be a very good SEC linebacker, but his problem to date is that he still thinks that he can just show up on game day and dominate like he did in HS.

If he will just commit himself to "buying in" to the program the coaches are selling and go out every day with an eye to improve his play, he could still be a factor in our defense. I hope he does so.

He tore his knee up in high school, then broke his ankle and then tore his other knee up didn't he?
Something like that. I had just hit drinking age when he was on the hill so its a bit of a blur. I just remeber dude being incredibly talented, yet it seemed like he had one devastating injury after another. Stories like that are sad...especially when you consider how many kids stay healthy but decide to piss away that kind of talent.
