Thomas Niles is an exciting DL prospect, let's keep it about him and not make the kid's thread a pissing contest. Hope we can pull him and AJ Johnson.

again Im not trying to disrespect or be combative, but your perception as well as many others is wrong. This Coaching staff is doign their jobs. and the perception of us going after lesser rank kids is Crap. especially when half the people spouting off about it cant even name any kid regardless of rank.

scout just released its top 300 and Rivals hasnt done theirs yet. so for starters Im going to walk us through the kids we are in it for from the scout list.

I couldn't give a crap about Scout's rating or even Rivals to a degree, if the kid has a good offer list most likely he is an elite prospect even if he isn't rated that way by the internet ratings. If a kid has offers from the likes of Bama, Florida, USC, and/or Texas, he is probably one of the best prospects in the nation in the eyes of those who actually know how to identify talent.

There is no place for you on volnation with that kind of simple logic. What does Bama and those other schools know about talent? Rivals and Scout has pros that their job is to rate the talent.

Scout is horrible, period. What they rate a player means absolutely nothing to me. They are a sloppy service with terrible evaluators. I do think Rivals does a fairly good job.

All any of them do is wait for the offers to come from the coaches, who are the true evaluators. It's amazing how fast someone can go from "unknown" to "stud" when he starts getting offers from USC, Florida, etc.

Scout's JUCO evals demolish Rivals'. I don't really see a big difference in the on high school prospects but I do like Rivals better if not just for the way it is rpresented.

fwiw Scout has the best in the biz imo, Chad Simmons.

He is by far the most knowledgable about where recruits are gonna go in the South too. Farrell tries but he usually has no clue.

Scout rushes their player ratings out.

And like I said I know guys who work for Scout who are responsible for player ratings in certain states and they are constantly ignored by the higher-up's when they ask for a players rating to be changed.

Also, their player profiles are hideous. In many cases they don't have the correct offer lists for players, the correct schools a player is considering or the visits they have scheduled.

Hell they don't even get it right with 5*'s sometimes. I remember Ben Martin 4 years ago was a 5* and the day he announces for Tennessee Scout doesn't even have the Vols as a school he is considering, despite listing them for months, taking an official visit there, etc...

I think as a whole it is poorly run.

Scout updates their offer list and heights/weights at a much greater frequency than Rivals. UT was not on Bryce Brown's Rivals list until the day he signed.

The thing I like about Scout is they have so many more articles with info than Rivals does about guys we want.

But their site layout is terrible and their ratings are not as good except JUCO.

LV why are we not getting any info about our DT prospects. Gabe Wright is about the only one we've had articles on in a while.

Niles basically had about a 48 hour window to commit when he received his offer. When he didn't they moved on. That should tell you how high he was on the board.

Yeah, I didn't see him being very high on the board either.

But because of the need, what we don't want to see are all the names above this kid's on the board having a line crossed through them too.

this really surprised me. I actually thought he was a lock to us. Im wondering if we didnt pull his offer because we have some silents?
