'11 GA DT Thomas Niles

They are not on the same level. Carson is the real deal. If he was 3 inches taller and had the film he does, he would be a top 5 DT in this class.

I thought his film was decent, but not great. He looked strong but not overly agile compared to some of the Top DT prospects out there. No way Bama and Auburn don't offer him just because of his lack of height. Height for a DT prospect has and always will be overated. If anything it can be an advantage from a leverage standpoint.

No doubt they need 3-4 DT's in this class, I hope they can find better quality than a Niles.

I thought his film was awesome. I know Wright is better, but just in terms of sheer dominance and their impact on the game on film, Carson looks better than Wright.

He is not as agile as someone like Wright and you can immediately see that on film. That is because he is about 3 inches shorter and 40 pounds heavier than Wright (he has lost about 20 pounds now though). But he blows up the middle of the line and is pretty much double teamed on every snap. That is all you want a true NT to do. Wright isn't a NT.

And if you want to see a DL get passed over because of height see J.C. Copeland. Nobody wanted him except UT last spring.

I agree on Niles. They can find better than him, but Carson is a good get for what we need.

I'm not familiar with Wilcox's defensive scheme, but I have heard we likes the 3-4, so would Carson possibly be a nose guard or is he just your standard DT?

Height is overated at the nose guard position. Former Vol Captain and Middle Guard Jimmy Noonan was a terror on the field.

Niles committed to UCF

And people on here actually wanted this guy.

I'm convinced there are some people on here that will spin, hype up and justify about any commitment Tennessee takes or gets, even if it is someone who is not in any way shape or form a BCS level talent.
