'11 LA DT DeMarcus Hodge

UT will def. take more than 4 DL this year...UT only has 3 returning DE's after '10...

Agree that more than 4 DL are needed in the 2011 class. But doesn't UT have 4+ returning DEs after '10?

-W. Bohannon
-S. Fowlkes
-J. Smith
-C. Miller
-M. Jackson (listed as DE, but assuming he may move to LB).

Maybe they can figure a way to get another year out of G. Williams:wink2:

Fowlkes was moved to DT this spring, and Jackson is a DE/OLB..not sure which position he will play...if he plays at all...and that leaves three...

Thanks, forgot about the Fowlkes move. Any updates on him size wise? Does he appear to be adding enough bulk to contribute on run downs this Fall? (Sorry to steer the thread OT).

Rivals is stating that UT is in Hodge's top 4. They also state that the bad news is that we are the only school in his top 4 that he has not visited. I tend to believe that if we are in his top 4 and that is indeed without the visit, that would be good news. I am not a recruiting analyst by any means, but this kid looks like he could be a solid defensive tackle in the SEC at some point in his college career. Any thoughts?

Aren't we getting a visit though?

what do you say LV, 4 DL this year? more, less?

Drew, Hodge, Wright, and Gosha are four that come to my mind immediatley. not sure of the realisitic ability to land two of them, but it would be nice. Pagan would be great, but thats a very longshot, IMO.

We will take at least 6, probably 7 imo. 4 DTs for sure and 2-3 DEs.

We are after a ton of big names on the DL. The 4 you mentioned plus Mickey Johnson, Pagan, Lynch, Truitt, Chickillo, Harrell, Newberry, Maggitt, Hayes, etc.

For people complaining about not getting in on the big names, they can't say anything like that about our DL recruiting.

Couldn't agree more. Geographically speaking, if you go down the rivals list for DL, we are in on a lot of the top ranked players.

I know i am in the minority here, but I am a fan of Dooleys recruiting so far. We may not light up rivals team rankings but we are emphasizing needs (which rivals doesn't factor in)...TE, DL, OL...

You are not in the minority. Every poll that has been done on VN or VQ shows that the vast majority of Vol fans are pleased with where Dooley is at right now.

this.

it only seems the other way around because those who are displeased are much more vocal (obnoxious) about their displeasure than those that are pleased are.

I suppose that is what it is...someone should make a sticky with a list of all the haters around here...lol.

It gets old that's for sure. I'm pleased with the way Dooley is doing things. He sees the big picture. Focuses heavily on laying the foundation of his system from the get go so for years it's one big family. He focuses heavily on needs in recruiting and with what we just got all we need are OL, DL, TE, DB and LB. OL, DL, TE is going solid and think about the position we're in with a lot of DBs. The players love him and their position coaches. Recruits at camps and their parents are really digging him. Things are going good. This year is going to be rough but would've been for Kiffin but I really think in two years things will really get moving especially if we go bowling next year and recruiting keeps going good. Two years things should really start moving.

I'm neither pleased nor displeased. The jury is still out.

The one thing he's done that I really don't like is going away from the FB again. I like FB's and believe run games are much better with them.

Agreed. Never have liked the idea of a TE taking the place of a FB. A FB is a straight ahead lead blocker. The RB runs right up his butt. A TE can not go from his spot take the angle and do it as affectively as a FB can. Fisher tried that after Lorenzo. Look what happened to Eddie.

Wth happened? Is this kid crazy? This isn't the brightest decision on his part considering the situation we're in with our DL, he'd be coached by Chuck Smith while playing in the SEC. I don't get this decision.

Umm wasn't trying to be biased guy, but you can't tell me that all of those factors aren't appealing to a DL wanting to play in the SEC and be a starter. Seriously bro?

Louisiana kids are tough to pull. Plus he doesn't look at Tennessee the way we all do. What have we done since hes been age 14-18?? Absolutely nothing. Tennessee isnt an elite program to kids anymore

I was referring to my comment as biased an typical. Sorry for the confusion.

Most definitely agree. I'm just stating that looking at his final 4 they aren't nessecarily "elite" programs either and actually we're more touted than the rest, however, Ark is turning it around. Plus add in the oppurtunities we'd give him I just don't think it's the brightest decision, but it's his decision and let him do his thing.
