'11 QB Stephen Rivers

If the coaching staff decides he's the #1 QB on our board, it seems like we have the luxury of going at him hard and not even wasting time recruiting other QBs. It seems highly likely that he would sign, and it seems like we have the depth at QB to withstand not even taking a QB in the 2011 class if he doesn't.

Well if I remember correctly the Rivers family was mad at Alabama about Phillip never getting an offer. What better way to piss off Bama in turn than to play for TN? Good enough reason to get him in my opinion.

with Stevens likely starting this yr...I would love to pull Rivers and let him battle Bray and Nance....IMO Rivers is a guy that can start as a True Freshman and beat those two out...He just looks so polished at a young age which is no suprise considering his brother is one of the better Qbs in the NFL

I'd really look to know how much interest this kid still has in Tennessee since POS left.

He has a big arm and all the tools to be very good, but he is very much in the same situation as Bray because he is rail thin. His footwork is pretty goofy too.... his shoulders stay parallel to the line of scrimmage on his drops and it just looks weird. However, that said, he would be a dandy with a year in chaney's system and about 25 pounds.

I have lived in North Alabama for several years. I remember when Phillip played at Decatur High his sohmore and Junior years. His Dad was the head coach at Decatur High. Before Phillips Senior year, his dad took the head coaching job at Athens. Phillip was a late bloomer. He was just a solid high school QB. He did not excel until he got to NC State. He was a safety on Defense and both Alabama and Auburn offered him as a safety. The Rivers moved back to Alabama before Stephens freshmen year and enrolled at Austin High School. The poster before said Austin was terrible and he was right, the are poorly coached. I was at the Austin Decatur game two years ago and on 4th and 2, they ran a QB sneak with Stephens and it got stuffed. Stephesn dad was furious and pretty much called the coach on it. Needless to say they enrolled at Athens for Stephens junior year. Athens is a much better team. I will get to see stephen play this coming year as my daughter goes to a school in Athens Region. HE is very clumsy in his 6 foot 6 frame. I also beleive he will be a late bloomer like his older brother. I will keep an eye on his and let you know his progress

From seein this kid in person and watching film he looks to me like a more athletic Tyler Bray. Thoughts?

At first glance, I would tend to agree but what separates Tyler from the pack is his accuracy. He has an uncanny ability to contort his body so that his shoulders are square on almost all his throws despite oncoming defenders' attempts.

There's no denying the fact that both of them have huge upside.

I don't see Rivers ending up at Bama. Bridges burned. Not sure if we'll even offer him. We have a big 2012 QB target and a few this season as well. Who knows though? Its really early.

Kid is 30 mins. away my son and I plan on seeing him play some this year . My son talks some to him thru facebook or something, he is solid with a ton of upside according to some I've talked to. Maybe we can get Wes Brown to convince him to come to the "hill". Will tell more after we see him this coming season.
